Coronation Street’s Sally Ann Matthews worries fans she’s been axed as she says she’s been given ‘a million years off’ from the soap

Coronation Street’s Sally Ann Matthews told fans on Instagram on Thursday that she had been fired when she admitted she had been given ‘a million years off’.

Sally, 53, who first appeared on the show in 1986, took to Instagram on Thursday evening to tell fans to get used to not seeing her anymore.

The actress plays Jenny Connor (née Bradley): former landlady of The Rovers and adopted daughter of Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox).

Her first stint on the cobbles lasted five years. She returned for a month in 1993 and for four months in 2015, before returning permanently in 2016.

Sally has been involved in major storylines, such as a romance with married man Robert Weston when she was underage, and the kidnapping of Kevin Webster’s son Jack.

Explaining why she was on holiday, Sally Ann said on Instagram Live: ‘I chose to get on a plane because I am particularly quiet at work.

“I still have a million years.”

Sally Ann continued, “So I chose to fly and I chose to remember happier times.”

She said she has been to Cyprus twice in five weeks and plans to leave again next Saturday.

The actress continued: And then I’ll go back to Cyprus, and do it now, and at some point I might get a job and someone might hire me.

According to The sun, she then read questions from fans and said, “Did you get off the streets?” Hmm. Wait a minute, next question.

Reacting to the former Emmerdale star’s words, fans said: ‘I’m confused’;

‘Are you no longer with Corrie? I feel like I missed something or my memory was blown????’;

‘You’re not on Corrie anymore?’, with a shocked emoji on the face.

“No, you won’t see Jenny again for a long time, so that’s that!”

A source said: [Sally Ann] is not on “pause”. She was filming last week, she might be off for a few weeks at the moment, but she’ll be back filming early next month.
