Charlie and Debbie have been together for 22 years and officially became husband and wife two weeks ago at Macclesfield Register Office.

The actor arrived at the hotel by helicopter and discussed their wedding OK!, saying, “I just wanted to get on with it. Gathering actors is like herding cats.

“We could have done the wedding two weeks ago, but we had to see who could make it.”

“On the day of the wedding, when we were getting ready to fly in the helicopter, I was sick of waiting – it couldn’t happen soon enough for me.”

However, he admitted he got choked up when he saw his bride walk down the aisle in her wedding dress.

Charlie said: “When you’ve been in love with someone for so long – 22 years – there’s still that thrill of waiting to see her and Debbie looked extraordinary and very beautiful. It was a beautiful moment when she walked down the aisle. I shed a tear.’

68 guests attended the ceremony, including Debbie’s daughter Sofia and grandsons Ruben and Noah, and another 200 showed up to the reception.

Simon, who played Charlie’s son Steve in Corrie, was best man after fellow actor Neil Morrissey was unable to make the day due to work commitments.

He brought the house down with a hilarious and moving speech, gushing: ‘I’m so, so, so proud to be your friend, and I love you both so much.’

Debbie praised: “Simon’s speech was amazing. He spends a lot of time at home with us so he knows us very well.

“He was joking about some of the things he was going to say and I said, ‘No, please don’t say things like that.’ But he’s a comedian, so it was really funny. But everyone cried at the emotional parts too.’

Charlie explained that he chose Eamonn to chair because of their long-standing friendship and because he hoped it would ‘lift him up a bit’ after his recent health problems.

He revealed that other stars who were unable to make the wedding were invited, including Beverley Callard, Sarah Lancashire and Bill Roach.

He added that choosing who to put on the guest list is a difficult task because “not everyone I know from that world agrees.”

Alison, who plays Carla Connor in Corrie, was one of Debbie’s eight bridesmaids for her special day.

Charlie cut a dapper figure in a navy blue suit with a blue tie and floral button down to match Debbie’s bouquet.

The bride, who works for a domestic violence charity, looked radiant in a white beaded bodice with a sweetheart neckline.

She teamed it with stylish trousers and a stylish long white coat over the top.

Debbie revealed her wedding outfit was inspired by a famous soap opera wedding, saying it was a “dream come true”.

She explained that the idea came from Kim Tate’s outfit for her 2022 wedding on Emmerdale, which she wore on horseback.

Debbie said she asked Kim’s co-star Claire for contact details for the seamstress who designed the outfit for her, saying it perfectly matched a picture she had drawn when she was six.
