Coronation Street’s Alex Bain, 20, announces he’s engaged to his girlfriend Mollie Lockwood, 19

Alex Bain has revealed that he has asked his girlfriend of two years Mollie Lockwood the question.

The 20-year-old Coronation Street actor is famous for his role as Simon Barlow in the hit soap, which he has been playing since 2008.

Alex first revealed the news in a joint interview with Mollie, 19, and confessed that they’ve been secretly engaged for a whole year.

Mollie explained that Alex got down on one knee on a romantic date night last October.

Two months later, the lovebirds broke the happy news to their friends and family at Christmas.

While Mollie explained why the couple kept the news a secret for so long, “We just wanted to enjoy that special time together, just the two of us.”

Talking about his nerves, Alex said, “I thought, ‘If I don’t do it now, I’ll get more and more nervous!’ I was pretty sure she would say yes, but I was still on it.’

Alex became a father at age 17, when his then-girlfriend Levi Selby gave birth to their daughter Lydia-Rose at age 16.

A source told The Sun at the time: “They were overjoyed at the birth of their daughter and very happy together.

“But they’ve been through a lot together and they’re both still so young.”

Their relationship ended in May and the soap star met dancer Mollie in 2018.

Alex previously wrote that his daughter and his role in Corrie saved him from “dark times” in the past.

He said, ‘If I hadn’t stayed with the job I have now, I would have been lost.

“Corrie has kept me going and especially having a daughter has kept me going – it gives me something to do.”

His hard work has paid off as he has won Best Young Soap Performance twice – first at the British Soap Awards in 2011 and again in 2014 at the Inside Soap Awards.
