Coronation Street star Lucy Fallen recently revealed why she decided to return to the Cobbles after quitting the soap four years ago.
The 28-year-old actress, who plays Bethany Platt in the ITV soap, admitted she needed time for herself, but also admitted she has no regrets about leaving the show.
The star admitted that she originally explained her reasons for leaving: The sun: ‘I needed that time. I didn’t do a whole lot of work. But I feel like I did a lot of life stuff.’
“I just needed that. I have absolutely no regrets about leaving. It was absolutely the right thing to do at the time. But it was also the right thing to come back.”
However, she admitted that her return to the show didn’t go entirely smoothly, admitting that she felt a little strange on her first day back.

She admitted: ‘I felt different and a bit strange on my first day.’
However, she admitted that it felt like no time had passed when she was back on the show a week later.
Lucy plays the role of local journalist and self-proclaimed detective Bethany. She returned to the series last year, as the writers felt her character was crucial to telling the story of Lauren’s fate.
The star received a call from a producer in April last year confirming that a storyline about her care would bring her back into the story.
Lucy is one of the few people who has known about Lauren’s fate for months, but she has had to keep it a secret from her loved ones.
The star never tells her family anything because everyone knows not to ask. She claims: ‘I always forget anyway.’
Lucy’s character Bethany has been the subject of controversy since her birth.
Her mother, Sarah Louise, played by Tina O’Brien, was just 13 when she became pregnant in a storyline that made headlines.
The star admitted to The Sun that she explained her original reason for leaving: ‘I needed that time away. I wasn’t going to do a huge amount of work. But I feel like I did get a lot of life stuff done.’
She continued, “I just needed that. I have absolutely no regrets about leaving. It was absolutely the right thing to do at the time. But then it was also the right thing to come back.”
In addition to her involvement in the child luring, she also became involved in a drug affair and was expelled from school.
However, Lucy claimed that she enjoys the gritty storylines her character gets to see, admitting that these are her ‘favourite’ activities.
This came after the star left the Cobbles in 2019 after playing Bethany for four years.
In a statement, the star told MailOnline she had made the “extremely difficult decision” to leave the show when her contract expired in 2020. She later claimed on Twitter that her departure had “nothing to do with anyone who worked on the show”.
She said: ‘After the most incredible four years, I have made the extremely difficult decision to leave Coronation Street at the end of my contract in 2020.’
‘It’s hard to put into words how much this show means to me. I’ve made lifelong friends with some of the most talented and hardworking people in the industry, I’ve had some amazing and hugely important storylines, and I’ve laughed with the best people every day.’
‘I am so grateful to Iain and everyone at Coronation Street, I owe them everything and I will miss them terribly.’
Lucy subsequently clarified her decision in a tweet: ‘My decision to leave was made in August last year and has nothing to do with ANYONE at Coronation Street. I did not do it lightly and I will miss everyone there.’
“I’m looking forward to my last year in the best place! Wow.”
Producer Iain MacLeod added: ‘Lucy informed us earlier this year that she wishes to leave at the end of her current contract in 2020 to pursue other projects.’

“She’s an incredible performer and has provided us with some great stories while on the show.”
‘I have no doubt that her incredible career will continue beyond this and I wish her all the best in whatever she does next – starting with the brilliant final chapter of Bethany’s story!’
Meanwhile, a source said The sun: ‘It’s a huge setback for bosses after losing Faye Brookes and Katie McGlynn in such close succession, and it has thrown the show into chaos.
‘Lucy has not been with Corrie for five years yet and feels that now is the right time to try new things.’
‘Everything is going on amicably and there is no anger whatsoever. Bosses are keen to leave Bethany’s role open in case Lucy wants to return in the future.’
