Coronation Street star ‘devastated’ as they’re replaced on new job after suffering nasty injury which requires surgery

Coronation Street’s Beverley Callard has said she is ‘devastated’ after they had to withdraw from a pantomime due to a nasty shoulder injury.

The actress, 67, who is best known for her role as Liz McDonald in the soap, was due to play Cinderella’s evil stepmother at the Rhyl Pavilion Theater in Wales.

But ahead of the show’s December 7 start date, Beverley has had to withdraw as her shoulder injury requires surgery.

She will be replaced by fellow Corrie soap star John Thomson, who recently reprized his role as Jesse Chadwick. The actor, 55, will play the Baron.

The TV alum, who played hapless children’s entertainer Jesse Chadwick from 2008 to 2010, returned last month just as his ex Eileen Grimshaw returned from a holiday in Thailand.

Beverley has shared footage of rehearsals in recent weeks and promised fans that it would be a ‘great show’ even without her.

“I have an unexpected shoulder injury and need to have surgery which means I will unfortunately not be able to perform in the panto this year which I am devastated,” she said The sun.

‘It’s a really fun cast and I was so looking forward to working with them all. It’s going to be a great show.’

MailOnline has contacted Beverley’s representative for comment.

Over the summer, Beverley revealed she is keen to join rival soap opera EastEnders, just four years after they left the cobbled streets for good.

She shared a stunning photo on Instagram, revealing her new portrait and asking her followers what they thought.

She captioned the post: ‘New portraits for the first time in years! Thank you @goldbellyfoto for making it so easy.”

One fan joked that she looked like iconic EastEnders character Angie Watts and suggested she could take on a role linked to her in the soap.

The fan wrote: ‘These should be submitted to the BBC so they can introduce you as Angie Watts long lost sister in EastEnders, right?’

Bev revealed she would be up for the challenge, replying: ‘Yes!! I would.’

And it wouldn’t be the first time Bev has appeared in Walford.

She played her Corrie character Liz McDonald in a special crossover episode for Children in Need in 2010.

Written as a standalone episode, Liz would be Kat Slater’s mother, in a shocking twist.

Ten years later, Liz appeared again in a second charity episode for Comic Relief.

EastEnders held a lockdown pub quiz online and Liz accidentally joined the Zoom link when trying to organize her own Rovers online quiz.
