Claire, who is known for her portrayal of Lindsey Corkhill in Channel 4 soap Brookside, was cobbled earlier this year.
But fans have complained that she was miscast as new character Cassie Plummer.
The actress was introduced as the long-lost drug addict mother of fan favorite Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall).
Tyrone was stunned to learn that his mother was alive after years of believing her dead from a drug overdose, and furiously confronted his grandmother Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) for lying about her existence.
Cassie returned to Weatherfield determined to get clean so she could reconnect with her son, leading Tyrone and Evelyn to believe that she had overcome her drug addiction.
Cassie insisted she had been clean for months and did her best to isolate Tyrone from Evelyn, insisting she come stay with him.
But as Cassie enjoyed dinner with Tyrone in his living room, viewers discovered she was hiding an explosive secret.
Opening her bag, it was revealed that Cassie was hiding a box of pregabalin for nerve pain, the exact drug she claimed she had given up on.

However, viewers have criticized the storyline, saying Claire looks far too glamorous to convincingly play a drug addict.
One person wrote on Twitter: ‘I can’t see Claire Sweeny as Tyrone’s mother, for starters she’s meant to be a junkie but with perfect nails, perfect eyebrows and Botox this isn’t a role she should be playing.’
Another added: “Cassie as Tyrone’s long lost junkie mother just doesn’t work. The perfect shellac nails, botoxed forehead, blinding white teeth and flawless ombré eyebrows don’t fit the modus operandi’.
A third agreed, writing: ‘Down with her, ridiculous storyline and what everyone says… her teeth are too white for medicine.’
A fourth echoed: ‘And a botoxed forehead and ombré eyebrows to match the shiny white perfect teeth!
‘When she was in the hospital, she also had a perfect manicure! I’ve never seen a meth head like that before.”
While a fifth voted: ‘A banging head with a full set of veneers. Get real. She would be toothless. And the Botox.’
It comes after Claire said she needed a ‘makeunder’ to play the troubled character in the hit soap.
Appearing on This Morning earlier this month, she joked that it was fun to go for a nicer look for live TV.

She said: ‘It’s such a luxury to have my hair and make-up done because at Corrie I get a make-under.
‘The make-up department is great. I look so different, I feel different and I walk different.
‘I spoke to my doctor and asked if you could advise me on this, and I did a lot of research. I went to one of the places where they get advice about addiction.’
On the experience of joining the soap in general, Claire added: “My first scene was a baptism by fire, and I love it. I always have to give myself a reality check.
“They (the casting directors) took a chance on me, and of course I auditioned and got the part.
‘The very first day I sat on the cobbles and felt more like an extra, which was nice because I could settle in for a while.’
