Coronation Street star Calum Lill is worlds away from his soap villain as he celebrates getting engaged to his girlfriend Roberta Mcclaron

Coronation Street star Calum Lill seemed a far cry from his soap villain role when he got engaged to his girlfriend Roberta Mcclaron.

The actor made his debut on the cobbles last year as Joel Deering after moving from Hollyoaks in a soap swap.

Calum shared an adorable photo of him, Roberta, on Instagram on Sunday as he announced he had asked her to marry him.

The pair, who have been dating since late 2021, beamed as Roberta showed off her stunning ring while donning a Happy Birthday headband.

Calum revealed that they celebrated the happy news by relaxing in a hot tub, but Roberta had secretly taken his swimming trunks out of the bag, meaning the actor had to wear a swimming costume – which he stylishly modeled in a separate snap.

“It’s about time I made her an honest woman,” Calum captioned the post.

‘Celebrated with a drink in the hot tub, but Roberta thought it was funny to take my swimming trunks out of the suitcase.

Coronation Street signed up Calum last year, who is best known for playing PC Carlton Smith in Hollyoaks in 2021.

During his time on Hollyoaks, Calum played a major role in the John Paul McQueen storyline, which saw his friend, PC George Smith, abuse him.

But he later swapped the Cheshire village for the cobbles of Weatherfield to take on the role of lawyer Joel in the much-loved soap.

His character arrived in Weatherfield to help Lauren Bolton, and Joel grew close to Dee-Dee.

A source said The sun at the time: ‘Callum has been filming for a few weeks and his character couldn’t be more different from PC Smith on Hollyoaks.

During his time on Hollyoaks, Calum played a major role in the John Paul McQueen storyline, which saw his friend, PC George Smith, abuse him.

“He’ll be on screen next week as part of Dee-Dee’s new storyline.”

Calum’s character in Hollyoaks, PC Smith, first appeared in the village in March 2021 and appeared in 12 episodes.

But Hollyoaks isn’t the only show Calum has starred in, as in 2018 he appeared in three short films: I Can See Clear Now, Sleep Warm and Heads or Tails.

A year later he starred in Holby City, playing Chez Wilson-Needham, and that same year he also appeared in Brummie’s soap Doctors, playing Conor Henson.

Corrie star Channique Sterling-Brown recently revealed a dating storyline for her character and Calum’s on-screen love interest, Dee-Dee Bailey.

Dee-Dee has often put her career commitments first since joining Weatherfield last year, but in the coming episodes she will be looking for a new man.

Channique shared the first details of the storyline while chatting during an Inside Soap magazine photoshoot to celebrate Corrie’s nominations at the 2023 Inside Soap Awards.

Channique told me Digital spy: ‘I think we’re going to see Dee-Dee in a new light. We’re going to see her go on a bit of a dating journey.

“Her life is a mix of fun and chaos, and I think fans will really enjoy watching her try to navigate that world.

“When she’s in the courtroom, she’s in complete control. I think it’ll be a lot of fun to see her struggle to figure it all out, so that’s what we’re going to come up with.”

Dee-Dee previously had a brief romantic spark with Damon Hay and remained single because things didn’t work out.
