Coronation Street SPOILER: Carla fears that Roy is addicted to his smartphone

Roy Cropper will cause concern among his loved ones when he becomes addicted to his phone on Coronation Street next week.

For years, the cafe owner has been reluctant to adapt to modern technology, but he finally decided to buy a phone earlier this year after a nasty scare with his niece Nina.

But in the next few scenes, Roy begins to worry his close friend Carla Connor when he becomes too dependent on his phone to leave it at work, leading Nina to make him a bet: will he give up?

Nina (Mollie Gallagher) first gave Roy (David Nielson) her mobile phone for Christmas, but he was reluctant to accept it, admitting he was a man firmly in the analog age.

But, after Nina was injured in the woods trying to find Roy when he went missing, he began to realize that phones could be useful, but only in emergencies.

SPOILER: Roy Cropper will raise concern among his loved ones when he becomes addicted to his phone on Coronation Street next week

Roy slowly began to hug his phone, first through text messages that began with “Dear Nina” and then accidentally using an eggplant emoji, not realizing its spicy meaning.

In recent weeks, Roy has realized that having a mobile phone means he has a world of information at his fingertips, and in particular updates on the excavation of the Roman fort that interests him.

Roy’s obsession with the fort and his phone begins to worry Carla (Alison King), as she struggles to complete her shift at the cafe without leaving him.

This isn’t the first time Roy’s discovery of newfound wonders has taken over his life, as in 2019 he became addicted to online Scrabble.

Roy’s confidence in his phone also catches Nina’s attention, and she issues him a challenge: put your phone away and finish your shift without it.

Will Roy give up?

It comes after it was revealed that Corrie received complaints from Ofcom about violent scenes that aired last Wednesday that saw Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) stabbed and nearly killed.

A far-right gang has recently groomed the teen, isolating him from his loved ones and pushing him to help spread Griff’s racist agenda.

Blake has also been manipulated and acted out by attempting to assassinate Councilwoman Maria.

Pushing through the crowd at the restaurant, Black revealed that he had a knife and Alya stood in front of Maria as she tried to hurt her.

Alya was stabbed and badly injured in the struggle before Gary Windass, played by Mikey North, tackled Blake to the ground.

However, it was too late for Alya as she dropped down clutching her chest where the wound was bleeding.

Blake was arrested by the police and blamed the attack on Max.

Viewers were less than impressed by the scenes of “gory violence” and took to Twitter to complain about the dark episode.

MailOnline has contacted a Coronation Street spokesperson for comment.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
