Coronation Street is rocked by one of its saddest EVER deaths

‘This episode has ruined me!’ Corrie is rocked by one of the saddest deaths in her history, as viewers weep over her “heartbreaking” farewell.

Coronation Street was hit with one of the saddest deaths in its history on Wednesday night, as viewers said goodbye to Evelyn’s beloved dog, Cerberus.

The emotional scenes left fans in tears as Evelyn decided to put her pet to sleep after he suffered a drastic decline in health.

While Corrie is no stranger to unexpected tragedies, this death hit many fans harder than most, as they took to Twitter to admit they could relate to the loss of a beloved family member.

Many also praised Maureen Lipman’s performance as Evelyn in the devastating scenes, when she said goodbye to her ‘best son’ as the vet put him to sleep.

And Evelyn’s upset was made worse by the fact that she learned from her friend Roy Cropper that Cerberus had accidentally eaten an Eccles pie, which may have led to her drastic decline in health.

Devastating: Coronation Street was hit by one of the saddest deaths in its history on Wednesday night, as viewers said goodbye to Evelyn’s beloved dog, Cerberus.

In the episode, Evelyn feared for her elderly dog’s health when he refused to move from the couch and would not eat.

Taking her pet to the vet, she learned that she would be undergoing more tests and would have to wait for the results.

Before learning the Cerberus results, Evelyn was enraged when Roy admitted that he accidentally dropped an Eccles cake in the cafe, which the dog may have eaten.

Eccles cakes contain raisins, which are poisonous to dogs, and Evelyn was devastated to learn that her longtime companion was suffering from kidney failure.

Although the vet said there was treatment, given Cerberus’s age, the kindest thing to do would be to put him to sleep.

Evelyn and her grandson Tyrone had time to say goodbye to Cerberus, who passed away peacefully next to his owner.

Caressing her pet, Evelyn said: ‘Only my little angel sleeps’, while she caressed him and thanked him for his unconditional company.

The heartbreaking death sparked a flurry of reactions from fans, who admitted they could relate to the loss of a beloved family pet.
