During a tense confrontation, Stephen (Todd Boyce) assured him that he had only backed out of the deal because he had found a better deal with Rufus Donahue.

But when Michael tried to renegotiate better terms for the original deal, Stephen was left in a difficult position because Rufus had ordered him to break the deal.

Rufus had warned him that if Stephen didn’t give him exclusive rights to Nippersnapper, he would tell people that he had been drugging his boss Carla (Alison King).

With Michael unaware of the dangerous position he finds himself in as he threatens to expose Stephen’s lies, fans of the ITV show took to Twitter to share their fears for his safety.

Sharing his opinion that he was next on Stephen’s kill list, one person wrote: “Mikeys is just asking Stephen to kill him.”

While another warned: ‘Stay away from Stephen Michael’, and a third tweeted: ‘Michael is basically digging his own grave. Poor boy, I’m going to miss him.

A fourth predicted: ‘Michael is next on fire on Stephen’s list. Can come.

And another added: “I think we just saw Stevens’ next victim, Michael.”

The latest twist comes after Stephen drugged his boss Carla in an attempt to take over Underworld and tried to end her life by gassing her apartment in her sleep.

Stephen was over the moon when the Underworld staff voted him in to take over the factory.

But Peter (Chris Gascoigne) is shocked to find him in charge of the factory and accuses the staff of stabbing Carla in the back.

Stephen was about to sign the American contract when Rufus (Steve Meo) appeared and told him to tear it up.

He demanded the exclusive rights to Nippersnapper and warned Stephen that if he doesn’t play ball, he’s going to tell everyone about how he’s been drugging Carla.

Stephen has been obtaining LSD through Rufus in an attempt to make Carla appear unstable, allowing her to take over the factory.

Later, in an attempt to cover his tracks, Stephen lied to Sarah, telling her that the Americans had backed out of the contract.

Peter then visited Carla and dropped the bombshell that the factory workers had voted to put Stephen in charge, leaving her devastated.

It comes after Stephen tried to kill Carla while she was recovering at home from another drug-induced outburst.

Pocketing the keys to the factory, Stephen went into the apartment and, checking that Carla was asleep, returned the keys to her bag before heading into the kitchen and lighting the grill.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
