Coronation Street and Love Actually star Wyllie Longmore dies at 82 after battle with cancer

Coronation Street and Love Actually star Wyllie Longmore has died at the age of 82.

The news was announced by his family in a statement on Friday, as they revealed that the actor passed away peacefully with his wife by his side following a battle with cancer.

Wyllie was best known for playing Dr. McKinnon on Corrie in the 1990s and also had roles in The Bill, Between the Lines, Casualty, Merseybeat, Waking the Dead, and Cold Feet.

Wyllie’s daughter announced the news in a statement that read: “I want to share the news that my father, Wyllie Longmore, passed away last night.

“She had been living with cancer but passed away peacefully with my mother by her side.

‘Those of you who know me will know that I am not prone to public announcements on social media, but I know that my father’s influence goes far beyond our family; so he wanted to share this news with all of you.

‘Please feel free to share this news in your networks. I will post information in due course about the quiet funeral we have planned and the celebratory event of his life and career to come later.

“Wyllie was a much loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and will be greatly missed.”

Wyllie was born in Jamaica and moved to the UK in 1961 before honing his craft in Rose Bruford College in South London.

He made his soap opera debut in 1992 when he played Dr. McKinnon on Coronation Street, treating Don Brennan (Geoff Hinsliff) after his car accident.

Wyllie also starred in the party favorite Love Actually, playing an adviser to David the Prime Minister (Hugh Grant).

In addition to his television work, Wyllie starred in several stage productions and won Best Actor at the Manchester Evening News Awards for his performance in My Children! by Athol Fugard. My Africa! at the Octagon Theater in 1995.
