Police have identified the five teens who died in a fatal accident in Atlanta early Monday in which a vehicle overturned over a wall, sending passengers flying 50 feet from the car.

Police say the three-vehicle collision occurred just before 4 a.m. on a ramp leading to the southbound lanes of Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County.

The accident caused a vehicle to overturn over the wall of the elevated ramp and fall into the lanes, police said in a statement. Several people were sent away during the incident.

Five people were found dead at the scene, three others were injured and transported to local hospitals.

On Monday evening, Gwinnett police identified the five deceased victims. At least three of the victims were students at Lakeside High School in DeKalb County.

Three girls and two boys, all teenagers, were pronounced dead at the scene: Katy Gaitan, 17, of Atlanta, Ashley Gaitan, 16, of Atlanta, Coral Lorenzo, 17, of Atlanta, Hung Nguyen, 18, of Lawrenceville, and Abner Santana , 19, from Suwanee.

The condition of the injured victims is currently unknown.

Copl. Christian D’Allaird of the Gwinnett County Police Department said all the dead were believed to have been in the same vehicle.

“I estimate it was a fall of about 50 feet,” he said.

“We don’t yet know what the factors contributed to the vehicle going over the wall,” D’Allaird said.

The collision caused road closures on the ramp from Highway 316 West to I-85 South for several hours on Monday, but they reopened later that morning.

“The main lanes of I85 SB are clear and open again. Both I85 SB and SR316 WB’s CD remain closed and will be closed for an extended period while the Gwinnett County Police Accident Investigation Unit completes the investigation,” Gwinnett police officials posted on Facebook.

Police are still investigating the cause of the fatal collision.
