“We are trying to narrow it down now to a firmer time and date,” Insp Chetham said.

He said officers had been called to an area near the woman’s address Sunday night after reports of a disturbance that included shouting and loud arguing.

It is not known if there is a connection.

“It’s a sudden death and we still don’t know the full circumstances at this point.”

“We have put all of our specialist resources into an effort to determine exactly what happened,” Det-Insp Chetham added.

Police want to speak to several people in connection with the death, some of whom are not in Cooktown.

Police were called to the area the day before the woman's body was found with reports of an argument, but it is not known if the two incidents are connected.

Police are asking for any information on how the woman may have died or any footage that may exist from the area around the time in question.
