One of Australia’s most egregious pedophiles is once again behind bars after allegedly smuggling a woman into a notorious sex offender center where he is housed.

Douglas Brian Jackway, 44, was released from Brisbane Correctional Center in 2020 after spending nearly 25 years in prison and transferred to the Wacol Correctional Center housing compound, home to child rapists and sexual predators.

On January 28, Jackway along with another inmate are alleged to have broken into a woman in the accommodation over the weekend.

Police are investigating whether she smuggled her in by hiding her in a car driven by the other sex offender.

The alleged rape is the second in just four months at the facility after a teenage girl was brought inside and sexually assaulted.

Jackway will now remain in custody until March 10, when he will face an infraction hearing related to the alleged offence.

When asked about the security of the compound, Queensland Correctional Services Commissioner Paul Stewart said they are doing everything they can to prevent breaches like these from happening.

“We will do everything we can to make sure we have coverage inside and continue to monitor and again introduce whatever form of technology we can in the future to defeat any activity on the premises,” he said.

“We have our intelligence and our information in relation to what’s going on and we’re putting in place to make sure that we address those risks with all of the infrastructure work and the patrols and the surveillance and the things that we’re doing.”

There are currently 56 offenders living in the Wacol Correctional Facility housing compound.

Stewart said a review of the compound was carried out in December and additional fencing was recommended to increase security.

Jackway is one of Queensland’s most notorious pedophiles, having spent almost his entire adult life behind bars.

In 1991, 14-year-old Jackway raped a nine-year-old girl, and then in 1995, he performed sexual acts on a 10-year-old boy, when he was just 18 years old.

Under the influence of alcohol and drugs, he took the boy to the mangroves and performed sexual acts.

He was caught in the act and was subsequently sentenced to eight years behind bars before being released in 2003.

Jackway then returned to jail in 2004 after being accused of stealing a vehicle and while the matter was before the courts at the same time, he was sentenced for the 1991 rape.

He was then controversially released from prison in 2020 to the Wacol facility despite being described in court as a “biological psychopath”.

During his time in prison, Jackway committed more than 113 rapes, including acts of violence against other prisoners.
