Converse collaborates with Dungeons and Dragons to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary tabletop franchise with a snazzy new collection of shoes and other gear that will be available online April 11. For those attending this year Gary Conthe popular Dungeons & Dragons fan event honoring co-creator Gary Gygax, will be available there on March 21.
Converse’s new products demonstrate a clear understanding of the assignment. Just look at the designs, which draw inspiration and detail from early editions of D&D’s Player’s Handbook, Monster Manual, and the Dungeon Masters Guide.
Naturally, the collection also includes a number of limited edition high sneakers made of canvas and leather in “Chuck 70” style. The two leather high-top designs feature an alternate version of the Chuck Taylor All-Star logo, designed to resemble a D20. The canvas designs include some other fun details, like illustrations of Kelek the Sorcerer, Warduke the Fighter, and Zarak the Assassin from the 1980s D&D action figures.
Some patterns, artwork and other unique elements are even transferred to Converse By You so you can apply them to your own custom apparel designs. To top it all off, the box in which these high sneakers are shipped has been lovingly transformed into a Mimic.
In addition to the special edition high tops, Converse’s D&D collection includes a trucker cap, shorts, a sweatshirt and three T-shirts. The hat and shorts feature the demonic face depicted on the cover of the player’s guide for the first edition of Advanced dungeons and dragonsbut my personal favorite is the light green T-shirt with a gelatinous cube, showing the Chuck Taylor logo.
Converse hasn’t revealed any pricing information on the collection yet, but as someone who wore Chuck Taylors to their wedding, I can’t wait to pick up a pair for myself.
