Consumers feel relief as wheat product prices soften during festival month

The data showed that up to Friday, November 17, 2023, wheat had been sown on approximately 8.60 million hectares of land.

Prices of wheat and wheat products such as atta, maida and sooji have fallen since November, which should bring some relief to consumers during the peak festival season. However, the decline was uneven and in some markets of Madhya Pradesh there was a slight increase in product prices, according to data sourced from private traders.

Going forward, market players believe that prices will be somewhat determined by the pace of sowing of new crops and also by the path of liquidation of wheat stocks by government agencies. On the sowing front, wheat sowing has gained momentum up to the last time (i.e. during the week ending November 16) compared to the previous week when the festivities subsided.
