A budget casserole from Kmart has been voted Best Pick of 2023 by experts, beating out pricey name-brand competitors.
Consumer NZ testing, a consumer advocacy group, ranked Anko $22 stainless steel casserole above frying pans more than twelve times their price.
Cheap product just beat $270 essteele bread despite the whopping $246 price difference between the two.

The consumer watchdog tested 13 different products that had a range of different prices.
They considered four factors, yield, cooking uniformity, boiling rate of water, and ease of use.
The Kmart 8-inch skillet outperformed Essteele’s pricey option in both boiling speed and ease of use, matching its abilities in the other tests.
Consumer testing team leader James le Page said the organization “recommends these two trays,” however, he stressed that the price of the Kmart tray makes it superior.
“With a staggering price difference between products that work perfectly well, the Kmart saucepan may become a hot buy this summer.”
The expert assured buyers that they also test to ensure that the product is durable.
“It’s not unusual for our tests to come up with some great performing, cheaper products,” he said.
‘Throughout our testing, we always keep sustainability in mind. We only recommend cheaper products if we are sure they will last a reasonable time.’
“In this case, the Kmart $22 saucepan is made of stainless steel and has a durable handle, which means it will not only work well, but should also last.”
The product already has great reviews from previous buyers.
‘This is absolute robbery. It has the quality and features you would expect from high-end, expensive brands, but at a bargain price,” said one man.
“I was pleasantly surprised at how good this pan is given its price. Heats evenly, easy to clean. Great product,” wrote another.
