A man has died in a terrible workplace accident involving a crane.

The 59-year-old was struck by a load of steel while working at a crane on a Glask Construction site in Malaga, north of Perth, on Tuesday.

Emergency services were unable to resuscitate the man and he died at the scene.

Shocked colleagues who witnessed the tragedy said the man was highly respected and they were heartbroken by his death.

Western Australian CFMEU State Secretary Mick Buchan said: β€œThere have been far too many serious workplace accidents reported recently.

β€œAnd now the sixth fatality this year is a real shame and a burden on the industry,” Mr Buchan said. told 7News.

“It’s really important that they’re debriefed and that there are services that provide mental health and first aid. They just have someone to talk to, that makes sure that there’s someone to look after you after something like that.”

The location remained closed on Wednesday as a WorkSafe investigation was launched.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Glask Construction for comment.
