Constellation’s twisty first trailer continues to prove that Apple TV Plus is the king of sci-fi shows

The first trailer for Apple TV Plus’ Constellation has been released and it suggests that the streamer isn’t ready to give up its sci-fi spectacle crown just yet.

Starring Noomi Rapace (Prometheus) and Jonathan Banks (Break bad), it looks like the mind-bending psychological thriller will take its place in Apple’s elite lineup of sci-fi shows when it’s released on February 21. Don’t take my word for it though: just take a look Constellation‘s trippy and twisty teaser below to see for yourself.

If you need story details, the trailer teases plenty Constellation‘s mind-bending plot, to be fair – here’s a more detailed summary, courtesy of Apple:

Constellation Rapace plays Jo – an astronaut who returns to Earth after a disaster in space – only to discover that important pieces of her life seem to be missing. The action-packed space adventure is an exploration of the dark edges of human psychology and one woman’s desperate quest to uncover the truth about the hidden history of space travel and recover everything she has lost.

Constellation is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to become Apple TV Plus’s latest sci-fi hit and earn a spot on our list of the best Apple TV Plus shows. In addition to talented stars in Rapace and Banks, the wider supporting cast is filled with household names, including James D’Arcy (Oppenheimer), Julian Loeman (Emily in Paris), and Barbara Sukowa (Traveler).

There are some big hitters behind the camera Constellation at. Peter Harnas (Wallander) is the creator and head writer of this chilling mystery, while Emmy Award-winning director Michelle MacLaren (The Morning Show, Radiant girls) has the most important directing duties. Incidentatlly, Constellation is also something of a mini Break bad reunion, while MacLaren directed eleven episodes, six of which Banks starred in. The duo teamed up again for two episodes of You better call Saulat.

Room for another runaway sci-fi success?

While it still lags behind some of the world’s top streaming services in terms of subscribers and extensive movie and TV libraries, few would dispute that Apple TV Plus is the place to go for sci-fi extravaganzas.

Since For all humanity helped launch Apple’s streaming service in November 2019, the tech giant’s platform has amplified its sci-fi genre with multiple award-winning and critically acclaimed TV shows. From that quota, Disconnection is perhaps the most successful, with the psychological workplace thriller’s first season earning rave reviews and 15 awards. So no wonder Disconnection Season 2 was greenlit faster than most other Apple-developed series.

But there are many more sci-fi stories that have helped make Apple TV Plus the genre’s leading light over the past four years. Foundation is a big favorite of mine, while I also like Silo, InvasionAnd To see have proven popular enough to get more seasons on the streaming service. Other sci-fi positioned programs, such as Hello tomorrow! And Strange planet are waiting for renewals on the platform, but they have been positively received by the general public.

Apple has pulled the plug on other genre shows: musical comedy Schmigadoon!animated offer Central parkand sports drama Swagger have all been canned in the past seven weeks – but the catalog of sci-fi shows continues to go from strength to strength. Based on the official trailer, Constellation it looks like it will further cement Apple TV Plus’ reputation as the current king of science fiction, and it will take a monumental fall from grace before I stop recommending it as the premier streamer for all your space travel needs.

The first three episodes of Constellation arrive on Friday, February 21. New entries will appear weekly until the March 27 final.
