Conservative consumer group launches new ‘woke alerts’

Conservative consumer group launches new ‘woke alerts’ allowing US shoppers to sign up for warnings about big companies pursuing far-left initiatives

  • Consumers Research launched the new initiative on Friday, already targeting BudLight and Jack Daniels
  • It comes after Bud Light received massive backlash for working with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney

A conservative consumer group has launched a system that allows users to receive “Woke Alert” messages warning them about big companies supporting far-left initiatives.

Consumers Research’s idea comes after a backlash against Bud Light when they signed trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney to promote the brand.

The Washington DC-based group, led by executive director Will Hild, launched the new idea on Friday.

It allows shoppers to receive SMS updates on companies that Consumers Research believes have gone too far left in their marketing.

Anyone can sign up for the alerts by entering a phone number on the website, with Jack Daniels, Bud Light, Blackrock, and Silicon Valley Bank all subject to it.

Executive Director Will Hild said: ‘We are launching Woke Alerts to help consumers make more informed decisions about where they spend their money’

The website states: “Many companies put progressive activists and their dangerous agendas before customers. That will only work if we look the other way.’

They targeted Bud Light after their Dylan Mulvaney campaign, with the transgender influencer receiving cans with her face on them — something the company said was just for PR.

Jack Daniel’s 2021 campaign featuring three drag queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race is also the target of their “Small Town, Big Pride” campaign.

In their description, Consumers Research also mentions Nike, but has not yet pushed a warning for the sportswear giant.

The launch of Woke Alert is supported by a six-figure ad campaign to attract interested users, it said Axios.

Hild told the outlet: ‘We are launching Woke Alerts to help consumers make more informed decisions about where they spend their money.

‘We believe that companies should focus on their customers and not on waking up politicians and progressive activists.’

In addition to the Woke Alert, the group’s website includes an environmental, social and governance (ESG) law tracker.

They claim it’s an ideological game by the left, with Consumers’ Reaarch having a budget of $8 million in 2021, according to the Washington Post. It does not disclose its donors.

Hild, who joined the group in 2020, is close to Leonard Leo, a Republican attorney and former executive vice president of the Federalist Society.

Leo who, according to the Washington Post, campaigned for Supreme Court confirmations of Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett, among others.

He told the outlet: “Consumers’ Research and its leader Will Hild are conducting the most impactful pushback I know of against ESG and other aspects of the waking corporate culture.

“It’s time companies that don’t align with the sentiments of most Americans pay a price for championing special interests rather than consumers.”

But leftist voices pushed back on the warnings, with Anna Bahr, a political consultant, telling Axios, “I hate breaking the radical right, but people in this country are much more concerned about paying for an eighty-dollar tank of gas.” than the color of their Budweiser bottle.”

Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) added, “The right wing is determined to push our country backwards, and this new text messaging service is laughable.”
