In a battle between the NHL's best rookie and the league's best player, age seemed to pass as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1.

Connor Bedard, the rookie sensation for Chicago, scored a beautiful goal to open the scoring of the match.

However, Connor McDavid, the sport's reigning MVP, made two assists to help the Oilers come out on top.

McDavid helped Ryan Nugent-Hopkins score first for the Oilers before helping Zach Hyman score the fourth goal of the night for Edmonton.

Goals between the two from Sam Gagner and Leon Draisaitl helped extend the lead for the Alberta side.

But McDavid scored two assists to lead Bedard and the Blackhawks to win 4-1

But Bedard's opening goal was a feast for the eyes.

Taking a feed from Alex Vlasic, he executed a burst of speed to get past defender Evan Bouchard. From there, he used the back of the toe of his stick to drag the puck back before switching to his forehand and firing the puck past Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner's glove.

That nasty release brought the few Blackhawks fans gathered at Rogers Place to their feet — but it would be Chicago's only top moment of the night.

McDavid found his old teammate Nugent-Hopkins on an open patch of ice in front of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

Just before the first period intermission, Edmonton's Derek Ryan returned a pass to Gagner, who helped the puck past the pads of Chicago goalie Petr Mrazek to take a lead entering the intermission.

In period number two, Chicago defenseman Nikita Zaitzev actually scored an own goal credited to Leon Draisaitl to give Edmonton a 3-1 lead.

Ultimately, McDavid found Zach Hyman standing all alone at Mrazek's door for a clean redirection to make it a 4-1 game.

Chicago now falls to 9-18-1 on the season and faces the Seattle Kraken next. Edmonton (13-12-1) hosts Tampa Bay.
