Congress tried to spread corruption from generation to generation: Lekhi
The seizure of cash from some properties linked to Congress MP Dheeraj Sahu's raids on the Income Tax Department is the highest among corrupt people so far, Union Minister and BJP leader Meenakashi Lekhi claimed on Saturday.
“The amount of cash recovered from Dheeraj Sahu's premises is the highest among corrupt people so far. The amount has reached Rs 300 crore…Congress has tried to spread corruption from generation to generation,” Meenakashi Lekhi added.
“Rs 300 crore is exactly the amount found with one politician; the count is still left to the rest of the corrupt politicians across Congress. If they were all added together, imagine how many banknotes would come out,” she added.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Parvesh Verma claimed that investigative agencies are not being misused under the BJP rule and it is his party's role to expose corruption.
“It has been proven that we (BJP) are not misusing the investigating agencies but all this is being done to catch the corrupt person. A lot of truth needs to come out about where he got all this money and which parties of INDIA alliance are involved in this,” said BJP MP Parvesh Verma.
Further, Verma added: Where will this money be used? The truth is yet to come, and I believe Rahul Gandhi will answer this question.
In what is likely India's largest cash recovery from income tax raids, at least Rs 200 crore in cold hard cash has been recovered in raids across three states since yesterday.
The Odisha-based liquor distillery group is associated with Congressman Dheeraj Sahu. However, cash counting is still going on, the IT official said.
The raids were conducted at Boudh Distilleries Private Limited (BDPL) and its affiliated entities in Odisha and Jharkhand.
Baldev Sahu Infra Pvt Ltd., a group company of Boudh Distilleries subject to the search, is linked to Dheeraj Sahu.
According to income tax officials, the raids were conducted in Bolangir and Sambalpur in Odisha and Ranchi and Lohardaga in Jharkhand.
