Complete list of shows interrupted during the Hollywood writers’ strike

The Hollywood writers’ strike has caused a number of popular shows to halt production or shut down altogether.

America’s nightly talk shows were the first to be affected, as they went out and began airing reruns immediately after the strike was announced on May 2.

And now that the action is likely entering its third week, it’s starting to hurt more Hollywood productions.

Thousands of movie and TV writers have hit the picket lines after the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike for the first time in 16 years. At the center of the line is the rise of streaming – with the guild saying that as budgets have increased, writers’ share of that money has consistently shrunk.

Analysts predict the strike could last three months or more, meaning further shows scheduled for release in the fall season are expected to interrupt filming or halt pre-production.

Game of Thrones writer George RR Martin announced on May 8 that the writers’ room on the spin-off series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight would close for now.

The creator of the Game of Thrones universe pledged his full support to the strikers by writing on his blogging“I’m not in LA so I can’t walk a picket line like I did in 1988, but I want to go on the record with my full and complete and unequivocal support for my Guild.”

“There are pickets in front of every studio lot and soundstage in LA, and in other cities as well. Get used to them. I expect them to stay there for a long time,” he said.

The writers’ room for the survival thriller and coming-of-age drama had another day of work before being closed due to the strike.

“Well we had exactly one day in the #YellowJackets S3 writers room,” co-creator Ashley Lyle wrote on Twitter. “It’s been amazing, and creatively stimulating, and so much fun, and I’m really excited to get back to it once the #WGA gets a fair deal. #1u #unionstrong.’

The strike will not affect the second season of the series currently airing on Showtime.

Writers of the award-winning mockumentary sitcom were set to begin work on May 2, but the first day was canceled due to the strike and has now been postponed for the foreseeable future.

Without a story for season 3, which was greenlit in January, all production is on hold for now.

Marvel halted pre-production on the vampire thriller Blade, which was set to begin filming in June in Atlanta.

The feature film, starring Mahershala Ali, has also been suspended once before, but is expected to resume once the strike is over.

Co-creator Jon Hurwitz tweeted on May 2, “Pencils down in the Cobra Kai writers room. No writers on set. These are not pleasant times, but unfortunately they are necessary.’

Filming for the fifth and final season of the sci-fi horror has been postponed. Creators Matt and Ross Duffer, both 39, known as the Duffer Brothers, announced the news to fans on Twitter.

They wrote, “The writing doesn’t stop when the filming begins. While we are excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, that is not possible during this strike. We hope there will be a fair deal soon so we can all get back to work. Until then – over and out.’

A planned release date was not set for the show.

“We’re devastated that we’re not with our incredible crew and cast right now, but there was no other option here,” executive producer and co-creator Jen Statsky said on Twitter on May 5. ‘Writing happens at every stage of the process – including production and mail. That’s what makes shows and movies good. That makes them possible.’

On May 4, the production reportedly resumed filming in the afternoon, but the picketers returned the following day.

However, according to WGA rules, Payne, McKay, and other writer-producers are not allowed to participate in writing-based tasks during production.

All creative decisions will reportedly be made by non-writing executive producers, directors and crew working on set in the UK.
