Since AI has entered the working world, it seems employers are eager to get their workforce ready for the changes.
a new study from IBM, which surveyed 3,000 global C-Suite executives across 20 industries and 28 countries, has identified some of the top priorities for business leaders as they seek to integrate advanced automated technologies.
UK executives believe 41% of their workforce will need to be retrained over the next three years as AI comes into play, with developing new skills at the top of the list of most pressing issues. Second, there was the concern about technological illiteracy.
Task priorities
With that in mind, 46% of executives are investing in giving their employees the skills they need to keep pace.
However, the survey also found that employers and employees have different views on the most important aspects of their jobs. Workers in the UK cared most about meaningful work as AI hopes to take on the more tedious tasks.
However, executives rated this as the least important factor for their employees. But both factions thought flexible working arrangements were very important, also apart from wages and job security.
Andi Britt, Senior Partner, UKI Talent Transformation Leader, IBM Consulting, said: “As we move into a future where AI becomes an integral part of the workforce, our job is to equip our workforce appropriately for this major technological shift. “
He added: “It is critical that executives can guide their workforce through this shift and empower them to succeed in the new era of generative AI.”
Regarding the gap between leaders and employees on work priorities, Britt believes that “Bridging this gap will be critical to ensuring that AI and automation are deployed in a way that empowers employees to refocus their time and energy on the meaningful and impactful work within the organization.”
