Rising sprint star Rohan Browning has apologised to his teammates after a shock stumble into his final leg of the 4x100m relay crashed the Australians out of the medal hope hunt.

The Tokyo 2020 sensation was primed for a big anchor home to secure a top three qualification spot for the Australians in the relay final when he lost his footing and failed to take the baton from Jake Hale.

Browning got to his feet but it was all too late as England clocked in a 38.46 heat as the 24-year-old walked to the finish in disappointment.

‘Only has to be clean, oh no it’s all over!,’ legendary caller Bruce McAvaney said.

‘I cannot believe it … a disaster for the Australians.

That blame would be ticking over left, right and centre, never seen anything quite like it.’

‘Huge apologies there but I think I just squealed … that was awful, he looks devastated,’ former sprinter turned Channel seven commentator Tamsyn Manou said.

‘That’s what happens when Rohan wouldn’t be able to do a lot of this training.’

Browning apologised to his teammates in Hale, Josh Azzopardi and Jacob Despard, who were visibly gutted by the early games exit.

‘So sorry, I know these boys put in so much work and in many years of athletics nothing like that has ever happened and hopefully never again,’ he told Channel seven post-race.

‘I’m so sorry to these boys and everyone at home. I just caught my toe and slipped. Like I said, [it has] never happened at training or races.’

The flying mullet finished sixth in the men’s 100m final with a 10.20 time.

Browning logged a confident 10.10 in the maiden heat which would’ve earned him a silver medal, the first for Australia in 60 years since Mike Cleary’s 62′ bronze.

The Aussie set sprinting alight at Tokyo, where he outgunned former world champion Yohan Blake with a smoking 10.01.

The Puma sponsored athlete struggled to fire at the world championships, missing out on finals with a 10.22 run that denied qualification.

Browning became a media sensation throughout Australia post the Tokyo Olympics, even racing famous sprint horse ‘Lost and Running’ during the spring carnival season at the Randwick course to promote the $15million TAB Everest.

Fans of the star runner took to Twitter to voice their disappointment at what could’ve been a huge campaign for the 4x100m men.

‘NO!! The Aussies were looking so good in the men’s 4x100m heat but Rohan Browning trips at the last change. Devastating,’ Codesport producer Lachlan McKirdy wrote.

‘Chin up Rohan Browning. Very unlucky,’ a gutted fan tweeted.
