BREAKING NEWS: Majors ‘fire offensive coordinator Scott Turner’ with head coach Ron Rivera admitting Washington ‘didn’t meet the standard’ he expects on offense following team’s failed playoff bid
The Washington Commanders have fired offensive coordinator Scott Turner after a frustrating season.
Turner had been the OC of the Commanders for the previous three seasons. Under his tutelage this season, Washington had the 20th-ranked offense in the National Football League, averaging 330.3 yards per game.
The NFC East franchise struggled with continuity at the quarterback position through 2022, with offseason acquisition Carson Wentz, quasi-backup Taylor Heinicke and rookie Sam Howell all starting in various stages.
The Washington Commanders have fired offensive coordinator Scott Turner according to reports.
Head coach Ron Rivera, who was supposed to be on the bench for an unimpressive season, released a statement via the Commanders’ website Tuesday night.
“I met with Coach Turner today and informed him that we will be moving in another direction in the future,” Rivera said.
‘Unfortunately, we did not meet the expectations and the standard that I had hoped to see from our offensive unit. I felt that it was the best for a new beginning in the position of coordinator for next year.
‘I have tremendous respect for Scott and thanked him for his three years of service to our organization. I wish Scott and his family all the best in the future.
Earlier Tuesday, Rivera was remarkably brief when he discussed Turner’s performance at his year-end news conference.
“Scott did his job, he did the things that he tried to do and we’re going to self-assess and go through that process,” he said.
And nothing more.
