Comic Relief viewers fumes as a technical blunder hits the BBC

Comic Relief viewers in Scotland were furious on Friday because a technical error left them watching lifeboats instead of Red Nose Day.

Viewers in various parts of the country took to Twitter to vent their frustrations at missing the opening segment of the outlandish comedy.

Affected fans took to social media in confusion after tuning in to BBC One to watch the start of the charity fundraiser, only to find the BBC Two stream airing instead.

Instead of seeing Sir Lenny Henry regenerate into Doctor Who’s David Tennant, they were shown footage from Saving Lives At Sea.

One viewer tweeted: “Comic Relief was not shown on @BBCScotland, it was another show at the beginning before they moved on to the intro with all 5 presenters.”

‘Did the people at @comicrelief in Aberdeen just see the start of Saving Lives at Sea…?’ another disgruntled person wrote.

“Great start for Comic Relief, they have this skit where they broadcast exactly what’s on BBC2,” someone else complained.

“Did anyone else miss the start of #rednoseday while they were showing BBC2 on BBC1?” another irate fan asked, to which another viewer replied: ‘Yeah! See tweets about Dr. Who but see lifeboats!’

And as the confusion continued, one viewer raged: ‘@BBCScotland And now you’ve gone from Reporting Scotland to BBC2 RNLI instead of Comic Relief! Is it YTS day??? Or is everyone already in the p**s?’

Elsewhere during Comic Relief, the Eurovision Song Contest brought together a host of familiar faces together with a hilarious Red Nose Day sketch.

Before Friday night’s fundraising telethon, Gordon Ramsey recited Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star into the recorder while Jamie Dornan sang without a voice as celebrities auditioned for the talent show.

However, judges Lulu, Graham Norton, and Sam Ryder decided who they would send, but they weren’t impressed by the horrible performances by the chef and the actors.

The first to arrive was Jamie, who was standing at the panel with a message scrawled on a piece of cardboard.

In the hilarious clip, the actor revealed that he couldn’t perform the song Paul McCartney had written for him because he “had no voice.”

The panel was taken aback by his audition when they reminded him that it was a singing competition and sent him on his way.

Next to try to impress the judges was Gordon, who took the stage with an off-key rendition of a nursery rhyme.

The high-pitched shriek echoed through the room, forcing Lulu to sneak out while Sam and Graham stood arguing over who would break Gordon the bad news.

“We’ll put you as a maybe,” the talk show host winced as the angry chef slammed the instrument onto his thigh and told the judges to fuck off.

Elsewhere, The Traitors Red Nose Day sketch parody began with Dawn French taking on Claudia Winkleman’s role as the host, channeling the host’s signature blunt bangs and eyeliner.

When he began questioning the ‘contestants’, it emerged that Stephen Merchant, Danny Dyer, Mary Berry and Alison Hammond were the celebrity guests.

In Maddy’s season, she came under suspicion when she confessed that she was an actress who had appeared in an episode of EastEnders, where she played a homeless woman named Rita, and in an episode of Casualty, where she played a woman without a uterus.

The next contestant to reveal himself in the skit was Wilfred Webster, who nearly won the jackpot in the first season before being exposed at the last minute.

The celebrity contestants then turned their attention to another sinister figure, whose identity was not revealed in the teaser.
