Comedian Kevin Bridges’ dad dies aged 75 after ‘battling poor health’ in recent months

Comedian Kevin Bridges is mourning the death of his father at the age of 75.

The Scottish comedian, 36, is said to have been by Andy’s side when he died on Thursday, January 5, along with his mother Patricia and the rest of the family.

According to Sun, a source revealed: ‘Andy mentored Kevin and took him to his first concert when he was a teenager. I was still getting new material out of it in the last few weeks.

“Andy was absolutely hilarious and that’s where Kevin got his comedic chops from.”

The insider also explained that Andy had the “biggest influence” on Kevin’s career.

“He was without a doubt the biggest influence on Kevin’s career and took him to pub gigs all over the UK in the early days,” they added, “They were a team.”

Kevin’s representatives have confirmed his father’s death to MailOnline.

Kevin previously opened up about his loving father when he appeared on the Graham Norton Show in 2015.

Graham mentioned that he understood how important Kevin’s father was to making his career.

‘My dad used to take me to concerts because I was too young to perform in clubs, so [let me] as long as I brought one of my parents, which was not right,” he told the TV host.

‘Having to bring a note and say you’re okay to go on stage at these comedy clubs.

He used to take me everywhere, all over Scotland.

Since his career began, Graham added that Kevin has thanked his parents for their support over the years, and on one occasion bought them a ticket on the Orient Express.

“My father has always liked trains,” he explained. He always wanted to travel on the Orient Express. So for his anniversary a couple of years ago I arranged the trip for them.

‘And my dad is the only boy who ever missed the train.

He got off at Innsbrook station, sent me a long message before the train was about to leave.

He says “Son we had drinks and dinner, I’ve been looking at the Tyrolean mountains”… and I’m looking at this text thinking “oh he really had a good time”.

‘Then he just goes, “S***e!” So he simply said, “The train just left, Kevin. Call me son.”

His father then received a standing ovation when he finally caught the train after asking locals for help in finding him at another station.

In September 2021, Kevin shared a photo of himself and his father Andy outside The Stand, a comedy club in Glasgow.

He revealed that it was the first place he made his open mic announcement, and his father was the one who took him there.

At the bottom of the post, Kevin wrote: “Over 17 and a half years since this man took me here for my first open mic spot. It’s good to have him back at da cluuuub last night. There we were now here we are… #Da #BigAndy’.

Last year Kevin welcomed his first child with his wife Kerry.

He’s kept his son out of sight since he was born in the summer of 2021, sharing just one photo of himself taking his little one out of one of his shows.

Wearing a blue sweater and a black backpack as he walked down a back hallway, Kevin carried his baby boy in his arms, who was wearing a cute beige beanie with a bow on top.

With a mannequin in his mouth, the young man looked towards the camera while being photographed.

The first-time father told the Scottish Sun they named the baby Liam.

Addressing his fans in the caption of his post, Kevin writes: ‘Five stadium tours completed! Mental. Thanks to everyone who came. It’s been a ride. From comedy clubs in January to big arenas, we go again and again.

‘Some off-field issues to deal with and then there will be some international dates and of course a DVD/special/whatever it’s called these days.

“Until 2023, man and God bless the hearts of trigger fans, and my mom, dad, brar, wife, and the legend of Son and My Dug, thank you.

‘There we were, now here we are. See you very soon…’

Kevin Bridges is “absolutely thrilled” to be a father as his wife Kerry is pregnant with their first child.

The 34-year-old comedian married his partner three years ago at St Peter’s Church, Glasgow and they started a family together when little Liam was born last year.

A source close to the couple said Sun at the time: ‘We can confirm that Kevin and Kerry are expecting a child this year.

“They are absolutely delighted and are both looking forward to fatherhood.”

A spokesperson for Kevin confirmed to the publication: “We can confirm that Kevin and Kerry are expecting a child this year.”

Kevin and Kerry used their wedding to raise money for charity, asking friends and family to donate to Glasgow’s Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Center in lieu of gifts.
