Janey Godley received an honorary doctorate in the days before her death.

The comedian, who died on Saturday aged 63 after a battle with cancer, received the honor from the University of Glasgow as she lay in her hospice bed.

In a candid Instagram post, her daughter Ashley Storrie revealed how proud she was of her mother and shared photos of the heartfelt moment she received the certificate.

She wrote: ‘Thank you @UofGlasgow for conferring my mother with an honorary degree from the University of Glasgow.

“This brought her so much joy in the last beats of her life. Janey is so honored and I am so very proud of her. I am always proud of her.

The University of Glasgow responded: ‘It is an honor to confer an honorary doctorate on the incredible Dr. Godley. We send all our love and support to Janey and her family.”

In a statement, Chris Davis Management said: ‘It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our client physician Janey Godley on November 2.

‘Janey died peacefully at the beautiful Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow, surrounded by her loved ones. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and her many fans.

“She will be remembered for her legendary voiceovers of Nicola Sturgeon during the pandemic, her hilarious and outspoken comedy, but most of all for just being Janey.”

Via X, formerly known as Twitter, Ashley shared a heartfelt video telling fans about her mother’s passing.

Her daughter revealed that receiving the honor brought Janey so much joy in the final beats of her life, before adding that she was extremely proud of her mother.

In the video she said: ‘My mother Janey Godley passed away this morning about seven o’clock. She was with friends and family and I wanted to tell you in person because it felt very much like what she would have wanted.

‘She passed away peacefully and I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the staff at the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice and to my mother’s found family who were with her over the last terrible few days.

‘I would like to thank you all for your kindness and your support. I believe deep down that she felt every bit of love you sent her. I think it kept her going. Thanks to all the support and love, we have been able to grow her longer.’

She ended the video with a tearful sign of “bye ma.”
