Body camera footage captured the moment a patched-up member of an outlaw biker gang was caught wearing a gold Comanchero ring, now banned under strict new anti-gang laws.

Video shows an officer from the Western Australian Gang Crime Squad speaking to three cyclists at the Raffles Hotel at Applecross in Perth in July, seven months after new legislation was introduced banning the display of logos or gang insignia, including tattoos.

A high-ranking member in the clip, Nathan Greenway, can be seen wearing the striking piece of jewelry sporting the gang’s insignia while covering his mouth with his hand.

But just moments later, when he tries to discreetly hide it, the officers confiscate it.

“Nice sleight of hand, mate, get that out of your pocket,” the officer can be heard telling Greenway.

He was sentenced in Perth Magistrate Court on Tuesday after pleading not guilty to the charge.

“It was caught on my body camera of you wearing it, so unfortunately with the new legislation you can’t display gang paraphernalia or insignia, you’ll get a citation,” the officer tells Greenway in the video.

Greenwood also tried in vain to cover up the Comanchero tattoos on his neck, with a tattoo of the initials ‘ACCA’ which stands for ‘Always Comancheros, Comancheros Always’ visible under his beard.

He was ordered to pay a $1,700 fine and is just one of more than 60 charged with displaying gang logos since the law was introduced in December 2021, 33 of which have resulted in conviction.

The law also makes it illegal for gang members to congregate in public spaces, with potential fines of up to $12,000 or even 12 months in jail for those found guilty.

Body camera footage showed the law in action, as an officer can be heard telling the three comancheros: ‘Now we’re going to stop you and issue you three a notice to disperse, okay?’

That dispersal notice will have your data and cannot be seen for seven days.

Asked by reporters outside Perth Magistrate Court how he felt after being fined, Mr Greenway simply replied ‘fuck you’.

More anti-gang laws are expected to be introduced soon, as the state government claims that fractures are starting to grow within the groups.
