Colorectal cancer expert reveals five everyday things he would never do due to health fears
A top surgeon and bowel cancer specialist has revealed five everyday things he ‘would never do’ in a bid to safeguard his own health.
Dr. Philip Pearson, from Pennsylvania, says the first thing he wouldn’t use is wet facial wipes.
This is because he claims that the wipes, which are used to remove makeup and dirt, “contain chemicals (that) can destroy your skin.” ‘Why do it?’ he jokes.
An NIH study examining 178 facial wipes purchased from four major U.S. retailers identified a total of 485 ingredients in the products.
It was found that the average wet facial wipe contained 16.7 ingredients.
The researchers noted that there are “many potential allergens” present in wet facial wipes, including fragrances, preservatives, synthetic fluids and cleansers.
This cocktail of ingredients could potentially irritate the skin, they said.
The FDA notes that “many wipes, but not all, are classified as cosmetics,” and if you have sensitive skin or certain allergies, it’s best to check the list of ingredients before using them on your skin.

Next on Dr.’s list of banned products. Pearson is hemorrhoid cream. He points to the ointment brand Preparation H as one of the worst offenders.
In a TikTok video, he explains his reasoning, telling viewers, “I wouldn’t use Preparation H or any other hemorrhoid cream because it’s greasy, it doesn’t work, it doesn’t do anything and it costs a lot of money.”
Dr. Stone Mitchell, a hemorrhoids specialist from Tennessee, also says that hemorrhoid creams don’t treat the cause of the problem.
He explains: ‘Hemorrhoids are simply swollen veins around the rectal area, often resulting from excessive pressure in the pelvic or rectal area.
Your browser does not support iframes.
‘Unfortunately, the creams for people at risk for hemorrhoids do not actually treat the swollen veins, but simply numb the swollen tissue or provide some other type of symptom relief, while allowing the actual problem to persist and relying on the body to heal itself. restore.’
Dr. Mitchell recommends using hemorrhoid cream to relieve symptoms and making an appointment with a specialist right away.
For his third no-no, Dr. Pearson says he would never do a colon cleanse to “get the poop out.”
He says poop is meant to sit in the colon and “it’s fine… leave it alone.”
There are two main types of colon cleanses.
One type flushes out the colon with a large amount of fluid. This is commonly called colonic irrigation or colonic irrigation.
To perform the procedure, a tube is placed into the rectum, the last few inches of the colon.
The other main type of colon cleansing, called an enema, empties the colon with a small amount of fluid. Some cleansers used for detoxification use herbal solutions or coffee instead of water.
Princess Diana was one of the first public figures to openly have colonies in the 1990s, claiming they took “all the aggro” out of her. Since then, stars including actresses Kate Beckinsale and Jennifer Aniston have admitted to using the treatment

Pop stars Madonna, Courtney Love and Britney Spears are also fans, along with singer Usher.
The R&B artist once explained, “As someone who travels a lot, you don’t always eat the way you should, which causes a lot of waste to build up in your body.”
The fluid is retained in the colon for a short time before being removed.
Although colon cleanses have become increasingly popular, and many believe the treatment can help protect against colon cancer, Dr. Michael Picco emphasizes that there is no evidence to support this.
The Florida-based gastroenterologist writes in a piece for the Mayo Clinic, “Colon detoxification is also not recommended or necessary for any medical condition.
“Some alternative medicine professionals believe that toxins from the digestive tract can cause headaches, arthritis, and other conditions.
‘They think colon cleansing removes toxins and boosts energy or the immune system. But there is no evidence that colon cleansing has these beneficial effects.”

Instead of colon cleanses, colon cancer experts recommend exploring a high-fiber diet to ward off the disease.
Specialists at MD Anderson Cancer Center say the “best source of this important nutrient is whole, plant-based foods.” That means vegetables, fruit and whole grains.’
Dr. Pearson also warns that colon cleansing can be dangerous and that coffee enemas have been linked to many deaths.
Returning to the topic of hemorrhoids, the doctor says he would never do that assume he has a hemorrhoid based on the way it feels.
He advises: ‘If you have any concerns about it, just go to the doctor and have someone look at it.’
There are several types of hemorrhoids, with external hemorrhoids showing the most visible symptoms, including swelling around the anus and bleeding.
Meanwhile, internal hemorrhoids, which are located in the rectum, rarely cause discomfort until they penetrate the anal opening.
Hemorrhoids, colon cancer, and anal cancer have some overlapping symptoms, including bleeding and itching, making it important to seek immediate medical attention.
Going into an area that Dr. Pearson is not very familiar with, eye surgery is the fifth thing he says he would never do.
He concludes: ‘I am not an ophthalmologist. I am not board certified. That is the wrong side of the person. I don’t know what I’m doing, so I wouldn’t do that. So there you go.’
