The Colorado Buffaloes and Colorado State Rams have a long-standing rivalry that didn’t need more heat, but here we are.

On his weekly coaching show, CSU coach Jay Norvell took aim at Sanders when discussing his players during TV interviews that took place with ESPN leading up to Saturday night’s Rocky Mountain Showdown.

“They’re tired of all this stuff,” Norvell said of his players at the show Wednesday. ‘They are really fed up. And I talked to ESPN today, and I don’t care if they hear it in Boulder.

‘I told them, “I’ve taken off my hat and my glasses.” And I said, “When I talk to adults, I take off my hat and my glasses.” My mother taught me that.’

Sanders, also known as Coach Prime, is known for his swagger that transcends coaching and perhaps football itself.

Coach Prime, who often wears a hat and glasses during conferences, seemed to respond to X

Sanders, the original NFL trendsetter, often wears his sunglasses, hat and/or hoodie while talking to reporters.

In what appears to be a response to the comments, Sanders wrote on X Thursday; ‘Forget what they think or say about you, because all that matters is what you think and say about yourself.

“I want you to stay positive and persistent. Today will be better than yesterday, but not as good as tomorrow. Believe that!’

Sanders’ typically prophetic post was reposted on the CU Buffaloes’ official account.

The annual Colorado-CSU matchup has extra hype surrounding it given the start of the Sanders era in Boulder.

Usually, a matchup reserved for the most die-hard Colorado sports fans or school alumni instead draws national attention.

ESPN will air the game at 10pm ET with The Pat McAfee ShowStephen A. Smith’s First recording And College Game Day starting tomorrow or Saturday all broadcasts from the school.
