Colorado dentist arrested after arranging sex with mom and daughter, 8: ‘I would sooo love to be a part of that’

A Colorado dentist has been arrested after allegedly arranging sex with a mother and her eight-year-old daughter.

According to federal authorities, 50-year-old Broomfield doctor James Jason Atha began messaging someone he believed was a single mother from Florida. The mother described in online chat rooms how she had manipulated her young daughter with sex toys during play in October 2023.

He then responded, “That’s wonderful. I would love to be a part of it,” according to a federal complaint obtained by the Palm Beach Post.

The two texted back and forth for months, until June 14, when Atha and the woman began discussing when he could visit her and the child, according to investigators.

But he didn’t realize that the woman he was talking to was actually an undercover agent with the Department of Homeland Security. He was arrested by federal agents when he landed at Palm Beach International Airport on August 9.

Prosecutors say Atha met with the undercover agent several times over the past 10 months and discussed the sexual acts he wanted to perform on the non-existent child.

“I would like to have a mother-daughter relationship to play with,” he reportedly wrote in a message.

When the undercover officer asked him in another conversation if he had had sex with a mother and daughter before, Atha replied, “Unfortunately, no,” the 27-page criminal complaint states.

“I’ve had so many opportunities that I thought were opportunities, but when push came to shove, I was ignored,” he reportedly wrote.

The officer then asked him several times if he was sure he wanted to have sex with her daughter, and each time he said he did, prosecutors allege.

Finally, the agent and Atha agreed that he would visit Palm Beach from August 9 to 11. They discussed flights and plans for the weekend.

Prosecutors said Atha initially hesitated, predicting his demise in a message to the undercover agent: “I’m very nervous, but I mean it.

“I think I’ll get there and the police will be waiting for me.”

But eventually Atha agreed to pick her up at the Palm Beach airport.

He is said to have even called the agent to discuss the details of the possible trip, according to KDVR.

Atha also allegedly asked the woman to dress the girl in “something that wasn’t quite age appropriate,” suggesting she wear a halter top with “short shorts,” lipstick and eye shadow.

The undercover agent then suggested that he would “play” with the girl on the way back from the airport.

Just one day before his arrest at the airport, Atha texted the woman saying he had purchased chocolate-flavored lubricant and condoms to use during sex with the girl and her mother, the complaint said. according to 9 News.

But when he arrived at the airport, Atha was accosted by federal agents who took him — and the undercover agent — away in handcuffs, the Palm Beach Post reported.

According to an arrest affidavit, he “spontaneously” asked how he could be arrested and how his conversations with the mother could be disclosed to federal agents — at which point the undercover agent identified himself.

Atha then allegedly waived his Miranda rights and admitted that he had flown to Florida to witness the undercover agent having sex with her daughter.

He also reportedly admitted to having child pornography on his phone (which officers later confirmed) and having conducted all the conversations with the undercover officer, but denied doing anything with it.

Officers subsequently conducted a search of his home and found evidence that he was involved in multiple incest and taboo chat rooms.

Atha now faces charges of attempted enticement of a minor, which could carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

He is due to appear in pretrial detention in South Florida on Friday.

In the meantime, there was a woman at Alpine Dental in Boulder, Colorado, where Atha worked, told CBS 12 that he no longer works there.

However, it is unclear whether he himself resigned or was fired.

The “about me” section of the practice’s website states that he traveled to North Carolina each summer to provide free dental care to children and adults who otherwise would not receive dental care.
