An unlucky deer in Colorado is under surveillance by authorities after it was caught on video with a blue plastic pumpkin on its face, preventing it from eating and drinking.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials were called to Parker, Colorado, to help the deer, but the work proves arduous as the skittish animal can still move normally.

“The problem is it’s still mobile, so it’s hard for us to keep up with it and get it in a situation where we can safely remove it,” conservation officer Katie Doyle said.

The unfortunate deer was spotted in the Parker Vista area and Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials were called to assess the situation

The deer can still move freely, but is unable to eat or drink properly, making the removal of the blue pumpkin a tricky race against time for conservationists

Doyle used the situation to remind people what can happen to local wildlife if residents aren’t careful with their Halloween decorations.

“He can see and breathe,” Doyle said, “but he can’t eat or drink.”

Wildlife officers are considering several options to help the deer, including stunning and removing the pumpkin once the animal is unconscious.

Doyle reminded everyone who celebrates Halloween to hang decorations at least six feet above the ground so they don’t get caught in antlers and harm the deer.

She added that fake cobwebs and other decorations should be hung in places where animals cannot inadvertently walk in them.

“It’s very important for people to be aware that if they live near wildlife, they have objects inside or don’t put them in places where wildlife can get in,” she said.
