According to Colombian media Vanguardthe Public Force helicopter crashed at around 4:00 p.m. when the aircraft was flying over the urbanization.

President Petro confirmed the shocking video of the accident on Twitter, telling his nearly seven million followers that he had authorized police to enter the area.

“A few minutes ago, an Army helicopter crashed in Quibdó while carrying out supply tasks,” wrote Petro.

“I have given the order to the authorities to move immediately to the area to deal with the emergency and investigate the causes of what happened,” he continued.

Less than an hour and a half later, President Petro shared the news of the deaths and the names of those killed while offering his thoughts to his family.

After the accident, Petro ordered local authorities to continue their investigations.

In a video posted to social media Sunday afternoon, the helicopter is seen falling from the sky as the plane turns.

Joint Task Force Titan Commander Héctor Alfonso Candelario said local media that the crash was a ‘tragic accident’.

According to Candelario, the aircraft was “totally incinerated” after hitting the ground. Two bodies were immediately found while officers searched for the other two members of the Army.

Among those killed in the accident was Héctor Mauricio Jerez Ochoa, a pilot for the Bumangues National Army.
