College GameDay legend Lee Corso sparks health fears with concerning appearance as fans slam ESPN for ‘trotting out’ 89-year-old every week

Fans of ESPN’s College GameDay were concerned about the legendary Lee Corso on Saturday after his lackluster performance on the weekly show.

Corso has been an analyst for the college football program since its inception in 1987 and, at age 89, still travels the country every week.

Since his stroke in 2009, Corso has had difficulty with his speech and other cognitive functions, but he is still a huge fan favorite.

Despite this, fans expressed their concerns Saturday morning after Corso accidentally called BYU “BFC” while making his selections.

In another event, he received the key to the city of Columbia, South Carolina, from the mayor and received warm applause from his colleagues.

Fans have been wondering on social media if it might be time for Corso to settle down into retirement, with one writing, “I feel for Lee Corso. His age is really starting to show but you know he lives and breathes College Gameday. I envy the people who could make that decision for him if they wanted to. I really don’t.”

Another added: “ESPN should not show Lee Corso. It’s sad,” but another disagreed, writing: “Lee Corso is a true legend and should retire whenever he damn well pleases.”

Corso is perhaps best known for his choice of headgear, which has been around for 28 years and has become a fixture of the show. The analyst pulls on the head of the mascot of the team he thinks will win the game.

This week in South Carolina, he was booed by Gamecocks fans for choosing LSU instead, but once the game got underway, he was ultimately proven right.

Earlier this year, it was thought that Nick Saban’s arrival on the GameDay panel would mark Corso’s departure, but at 89 years old, he continues to amaze viewers every week with his energy and humor.
