College forced to apologize for their basketball fans’ offensive chant towards BYU
Providence College’s athletic director has apologized after the school’s basketball fans directed an offensive chant toward BYU.
On Tuesday, the Friars – a Catholic school – hosted Mormon University men’s basketball and won 83-64.
And one video appeared on social media that night when fans chanted “F**k the Mormons” during the game.
Providence AD Steven Napolillo apologized afterward for the “unacceptable chants.”
“I would like to apologize to their coaches and institution for the unacceptable chants of our students tonight,” he said wrote on X.

The chants took place as the Friars hosted BYU on Tuesday night, ultimately winning 83-64
“Once it was brought to my attention, I went to the student body and got them to stop. That does not represent who Providence College is and what we stand for. We’re sorry.’
BYU is the most prominent Mormon school in the US and has a strict honor code.
Rules on campus include no premarital sex, marijuana, alcohol or even tea and coffee.
Students are also required to regularly attend services of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, according to the the school’s website.
BYU moved to 6-2 on the year with the loss at Providence, while the hosts improved to 6-3.
