College football fans send prayers for ESPN star Kirk Herbstreit after he announced family’s devastating news

Football fans are rallying behind broadcaster Kirk Herbstreit after the former quarterback shared a disturbing update about a member of his family.

Herbstreit’s golden retriever, Ben, has had leukemia since March, and the pup – who often travels with the football analyst – was unable to go on the road earlier this week after his latest round of treatment.

And after Herbstreit posted a video Announcing that news and showing off the beautiful gestures his hotel performed for Ben, fans offered their well wishes online.

‘We all love Ben. I hope we see him soon!,” said a fan on X.

β€œI hear you holding back the tears at the end. Prayers for Ben!,” a second added.

Kirk Herbstreit announced earlier this week that his dog, Ben, did not travel with him to California after his latest treatment for leukemia

The hotel put a bed in Herbstreit's room for Ben

They also had 15 people sign a card for the puppy

The Ritz-Carlton in Marina Del Rey, California expected Ben to come and decorate the room for him – and even leave a card signed by the staff member.

β€œBen is America’s puppy. We love him,” said a third.

And a fourth wrote: ‘Praying that Ben gets total and complete healing. So heartwarming to see how God uses him to bring so much joy to the world! Thank you for sharing it with us.”

The Ritz-Carlton in Marina Del Rey, California had expected Herbstreit to take Ben before the Vikings-Rams Thursday Night Football Game was called.

And the hotel went the extra mile for the pet, putting a dog bed in the room with toys on it and even signing a card for the pup.

Herbstreit thanked the hotel for their kindness and sounded like he got emotional in the video he posted of the room.

Saturday, however, brought a much better mood as Ben was able to travel with Herbstreit to ESPN’S College GameDay in Bloomington for the Indiana-Washington game.

Herbstreit posted several photos of the pup from Indiana’s campus, as one adorably showed him with a Washington ID around his neck.

Herbstreit also received a custom-made Indiana jersey, with someone holding a sticker of Ben over it.

The dog even hilariously crashed onto the SportsCenter set early in the morning, which put a smile on Herbstreit’s face.

It’s unclear where College GameDay will be held next weekend, but hopefully Ben can make the trip.
