Colin Farrell looks unrecognisable with facial prosthetics as he continues to film The Penguin

This actor is known for his chiseled good looks and Irish charm, but looked strikingly different on Thursday as he continued filming for the new series The Penguin,

That’s right, it’s Colin Farrell! The 46-year-old star looked unrecognizable while filming in New York City, transforming his look to fit the role of the titular crime boss.

He reprises his role from the 2022 blockbuster The Batman, with the first look at the character released last week as the series prepares to air on the rebranded streaming service Max (formerly HBO Max).

While filming scenes alongside co-star Cristin Milioti, the Golden Globe winner seemed worlds away from his usually chiseled look as he donned a face of prosthetics for the role — adding facial scarring and a receding hairline.

He donned a cream tailored suit over a burgundy shirt, topped off with shiny black shoes and Colin looked noticeably different.

Co-star Cristin – who plays the daughter of Gotham crime boss Carmine Falcone, played by John Turturro in The Batman – was next to him as she smoked a cigarette.

She wore a long coat in midnight blue with a pair of black pumps, with her raven locks left in a natural style when she came into the role of Sofia Falcone.

Continuing the story that began in director Matt Reeves’ The Batman, the series depicts Oswald Cobbelpot’s complete transformation into the notorious criminal who would become known as The Penguin.

This month saw the release of the first teaser trailer for the DC villain spin-off, which captured Colin in the character of The Penguin, shooting enemies laughing and calling himself the “new kingpin of Gotham.”

The chilling clip begins with him musing, “This is one of those moments. You ask yourself: What kind of life do I want? The world is not made for guys like us. That’s why we have to take everything we decide as our own.’

The trailer appears to show The Penguin in the middle of a power struggle, as he manages to resist an attempted stabbing after discussing fellow Gotham mobster Carmine Falcone.

The eight-episode series was first announced in March 2022, just days after The Batman debuted a whopping $134 million at the box office, en route to $369.3 million domestically and $770.9 million worldwide.

The series was a direct-to-order written by Lauren LeFranc, who will also serve as showrunner.

It also stars Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Deirdre O’Connell, with Clancy Brown and Michael Zegen returning.

The show is based on characters created for DC by Bob Kane starring Bill Finger.

Colin recently told Variety that while making the 2022 film, he was unaware of a possible miniseries on the villainous character, but knew there was plenty of material to work with creatively and aesthetically.

“The only thing I had a clue about was that I couldn’t explore the character nearly as well as I’d like,” he said. “Because there’s been all this extraordinary work done by Mike Marino and Mike Fontaine and his team, and I thought this was the tip of the iceberg, sorry for the pun, that we were going to do the six or seven scenes that we did in the movie. . I was grateful to them, but I wanted more.’

Colin said his transformation into The Penguin convinced The Batman producer Dylan Clark to bring the project to life.

“Honestly, every thought I had about an extended series had to do with Mike Marino’s work,” he told the outlet. “I just knew there was so much to do with it — getting older, getting older.

“He’s just such a genius, Mike, so it was actually his work that was the inspiration.”
