On Saturday, HBO released a new trailer for The Penguin, the upcoming eight-episode DC series based on the villainous Batman character.

The show, starring 48-year-old Colin Farrell, premieres Thursday, September 19 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT and can also be streamed on Max.

The Penguin follows the events that unfold after 2022’s The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz.

The story is about Oswald Cobblepot, better known as The Penguin, who wants to conquer the criminal world of Gotham.

The latest teaser opens with the protagonist slow dancing with his mother, who reminds him that he promised her “a beautiful life.”

He assures her, “I’m working on it, Mom,” before adding in a voice-over that “the world is not set up for honest people to succeed.”

Oz then repeats: “That’s not how the world works,” as viewers are shown a gruesome scene of him stabbing someone.

In another shot, the villain is seen in a one-on-one conversation with a young man. He says, “America is a mess.”

Colin appeared at Comic-Con in San Diego this weekend, where the new trailer was revealed, via a virtual call from Macau, China, where he is filming a new movie.

The visualizer introduces the prospect of a “gang war” as Oz recounts his strategy for “burning down an empire from within.”

“Believe me, this is just the beginning,” he says later ominously.

The series also stars Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Deirdre O’Connell.

James Madio, Theo Rossi, Scott Cohen, Clancy Brown, Carmen Ejogo and Michael Zegen complete the cast.

During Saturday’s panel discussion, Batman director Matt Reeves explained the Penguin as “a power vacuum in Gotham,” according to Deadline.

He described him as someone who is ‘completely underestimated, but still has a great fire in him.’

Reeves also revealed that disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was one of the inspirations for Penguin’s look.

Colin underwent a remarkable transformation for the role and appeared unrecognizable throughout the entire production.

Reeves also confirmed Saturday that Farrell will return for his next Batman film, which is set to begin filming in 2025.

“The lore of this world had such a pull for me,” Farrell said at Comic-Con, explaining that he saw his character as a person with “violence and pain in his heart.” [his] sight.’

Throughout the series, viewers will explore “The Penguin’s life and how broken it is,” delving deeper into “his ambition and greed, and the fallout from events in Oz’s youth.”

Despite The Penguin being “a disaster,” Farrell said he was a “tasty character” to explore.
