A Coles worker has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after she was reportedly stabbed in the back in a shopping centre.

Emergency services were called to Yamanto Central in Ipswich, southwest of Brisbane, about 5.23pm on Monday following reports of an alleged stabbing in Coles.

A woman, 63, was treated at the scene and taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.

Shocked shoppers were evacuated from the center as police cordoned off Coles and set up a large crime scene.

A teenage boy was tackled by a member of the public before being arrested at the scene.

He was taken into custody and was questioned by police on Monday evening. No charges have been filed yet.

“There is no further information at this time,” a police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

The shopping center has now reopened, but most shops are closed at night.

Forensic officers were seen in Coles taking photographs and searching for evidence
