Collectables for adults! Coles is giving away free Smeg knives valued at more than $800 – here’s everything you need to know: ‘What a steal’

Coles customers are rushing to get their hands on Smeg’s luxury knife range, which is worth more than $800.

The supermarket chain has launched a seven-piece stainless steel knife block set from the top brand. Customers can use points to pick up the items individually.

Through January 21, 2025, customers can earn one kitchen knife credit for every $20 they spend in a single transaction.

Simply scan your Flybuys card and exchange your credit for a free Smeg knife. Alternatively, you can use half of your credit and pay the rest at checkout in-store or when you place your order online.

The Smeg knife block, available in cream and black, can be redeemed for half credits and half salary, or you can buy it outright for $100.

Those who can’t wait to collect all the points can buy the complete knife block set at once for $292, which is a lot cheaper than the original price.

If you don’t need the complete set, the stainless steel blades are sold separately. Prices range from $20 to $40 each.

Shopping Adriana was so excited about the new Smeg series that she couldn’t resist buying the knife block in both colours.

“You don’t understand how I ran to Coles to get this Smeg knife block,” she said in a video that has since gone viral.

‘I bought the cream and black because I couldn’t decide which colour to buy. I didn’t want to wait for the points – and it’s cheaper than anything I found online. No regrets.’

Adriana ultimately used the block to display her own knives, but she planned to use the credits she would collect over the next few months for the Smeg knives.

Many were surprised by the new Smeg collection at Coles, with one commenting: ‘To be honest, these are a bargain. They were selling for around $800 a set at one point.’

To get a free vegetable peeler, you need to collect 20 credits. This means that as a customer you need to spend a maximum of $400 on groceries.

The bread knife is worth 36 credits. This means that customers would need to spend $720 at checkout to get the necessary points. They can also purchase the knife outright for $36.

Many indicated that they would like to wait until they had collected enough credits to get the set for free.

‘Just do your shopping at Coles and in January you can easily have all the knives with just the Flybuys points! No point in paying for them,’ said one.

Many Smeg fans felt they should buy the set right away.

“If you do the math, you’d need to spend $5,000 at Coles to earn enough points to buy them all – or you could just buy them at Coles for $290,” one customer noted.

Adriana agreed and said, “If you like them enough, buy them. If you’re going to spend that money in the next three to four months, use the points.”

However, some loyal customers reported that they had an easy way to earn points faster, without having to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

“You have to figure out the system and buy the bonus items. It’s very possible that for every $40 you get 10 credits,” said one customer.

For example, all of these products have one bonus credit: MasterFoods Spice $1.90, Colgate Toothpaste $2, Mount Franklin Sparkling Water $2 and Coles Finest Orange Juice $2.

“But only one credit per brand, per store. If you buy more than one item, split them into $20 transactions. I love these promos.”

Customers can earn extra credit when they purchase select products from participating brands including Barilla, Colgate, Fairy and more.
