I bought nine items from Coles and was lost for words when I saw the cost: ‘Have you lost your mind?’

An Australian woman was furious when she saw how much stuff Coles had cost her.

Avalon from Melbourne went to the supermarket to buy nine items and paid a staggering $60.10.

The 25-year-old told FEMAIL she bought noodles, soy sauce, tofu, two cucumbers, a tin of sweet corn, mint and snow peas.

“What’s wrong with Coles? In what reality are two cucumbers worth… $7? Are you crazy?” she said in a video.

‘It is cheaper for me to order food for two people with side dishes than to just do the bare minimum shopping.’

Dozens of others questioned why she didn’t go to Aldi or a local market for cheaper produce, but Avalon explained she had “no other choice” as she was heading to Coles at 10pm.

“I normally do my shopping at markets because if I’m going to spend a million dollars on groceries, at least they’re good quality and I’m supporting farmers,” she adds.

‘Coles and Woolies are literally screwing everyone except the big bosses.’

Avalon, from Melbourne (pictured) went to Coles late one night to pick up some supplies and paid a staggering $60.10. “What’s wrong with Coles? In what reality are two cucumbers… worth $7?” she said in a video

This follows news that Coles’ profits rose 8 percent to $1.1 billion despite the cost of living crisis.

WHICH ITEMS WERE PURCHASED?

  • 2 cucumbers – $3.50 each
  • Soy sauce
  • Noodles
  • A can of sweet corn
  • Tofu
  • Coin
  • Instant noodles
  • Peas

Total: $60.10

The supermarket giant reported its annual financial results on Tuesday morning, reporting a profit of $1.09 billion, slightly higher than the $1.04 billion profit from the previous year.

Revenue followed the same upward trajectory, rising 4.4 percent for the year to $43.6 billion. Total dividends to shareholders rose from 66 cents per share to $0.68.

Avalon’s video has now been viewed more than 755,000 times and others agree that supermarket prices are astronomical.

“I went to get rice, chicken and milk and it cost $32,” one person claimed.

“I bought one cabbage and it was $8!” added another.

‘As someone who works at Coles I usually do my shopping at Aldi and local fruit and veg shops because the extortionate prices at Coles are ridiculous,’ added a third.

But someone pointed out that cucumbers are not actually a seasonal product, but a summer fruit.

Another said, “Just go to a local grocer. Cheaper, healthier, and better.”

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Coles for comment.
