Coleen Rooney reveals the secret to making her marriage with Wayne work as she confesses there were times she thought they wouldn’t make it
Coleen Rooney revealed the key to making her marriage work as she opened up about her ups and downs with Wayne.
The couple, who have been married for 16 years, have been dogged by reports of Wayne’s infidelity during his football career, during which he previously apologized for visiting brothels.
Speaking to Fearne Cotton on her Happy Place podcast, the 38-year-old WAG explained how they got through the tough times, sharing: ‘Sometimes you might have to, you can draw the line under it and say this is it. but to me, Wayne, I always said there was always love.
‘Why throw it away when you can work on it? If you work on it and it doesn’t work, forget it and go your own way, but there has always been love.
“We never wanted to break up, but situations arise where it could have happened, and you know, we might not have gotten through it.”

Coleen continued: ‘But we did and that’s the way I have to look at it and hopefully that’s it, you know it’s going to be a beautiful, smooth sailing marriage…’
The mother-of-four previously revealed she almost ended her marriage as Wayne drove home after a night out with party girl Laura Simpson.
In 2017, Wayne was stopped by police and found to be three times the drink-drive limit while driving Laura’s car, who he met at a bar in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.
But in her chat with Fearne, she explained how she and Wayne resolved their issues, revealing that communication was key.
“Put it on the table,” she explained. ‘There’s no point in holding it in because that will get you all worked up.
‘I’ve seen that happen to so many people, even with the children I say: get on with it, leave your punishment behind and then move on.
“Sometimes people don’t want to hear the truth and there can be an argument, but you know you have to work through it.”
Coleen also spoke about the importance of spending quality time together away from their four sons: Kai, 14, Klay, 10, Kit, eight, and Cass, five.
“I’ve always made time for Wayne and I to go – you know, when he has a few days off – a few times a year we go away and just have time together.”
Speaking about the longevity of their romance, Coleen continued: ‘When you grow up together you know we’ve known each other from a young age… when I look now I was 16 and had my son almost 15 I think, I was just a baby, I was so young.
“But we grew up together, we’ve been through hard times together, we’ve been through good times together and we know each other well.
‘I know it sounds that way, but you come across some couples who don’t really know each other that well.
‘Were a team and we’ve helped each other through life and there are things that – we’re good at seeing the better outcome instead of the worst.’
Coleen said: “Sometimes you might have to draw the line and say this is it, but with me, Wayne, I always said there was always love.”

Wayne and Coleen’s 20-year relationship has been marred by several cheating scandals, with the footballer making national headlines when it emerged he had visited three prostitutes as a teenager.
In 2004, after Wayne, then aged 18, moved to Manchester United, it was discovered that the teenager paid £140 for sex with 21-year-old prostitute Charlotte Glover.
It was also claimed he slept in a Liverpool brothel with Gina McCarrick, then 37, and grandmother Patricia Tierney, then 48.
Devastated Coleen stood by her husband but made no public comment on the claims – although she later admitted that when the scandal emerged she had not yet slept with Wayne herself.
The couple worked through their issues and married four years later, although their newlywed happiness was short-lived when it emerged in 2010 that the footballer had slept with two more prostitutes while Coleen was pregnant with their first son, Kai.
More incidents involving other women followed in 2017 and 2019, while Wayne made headlines again in 2021 after photos emerged of the star partying and falling asleep in a hotel room with young women.
Coleen’s interview comes as she prepares to appear on I’m A Celebrity.
The TV personality will hit the famous jungle this week and while the campmates’ close friends and family will fly out to meet their loved ones on the famous bridge, Wayne’s busy football schedule will keep him from being there.
The former player is currently the manager of EFL Championship club Plymouth Argyle and is desperate for results.
His team has games on November 22, 26 and 30 and December 7, 10 and 14.
Coleen also spoke about the importance of spending quality time together away from their four sons: Kai, 14, Klay, 10, Kit, eight, and Cass, five.
Elsewhere it has been revealed that Coleen will be excused from certain trials for medical reasons.
The wife of former England and Manchester United footballer Wayne has been ruled out of the grueling trials due to her reactive arthritis.
And the news has drastically affected her chances of winning.
Bookmakers Ladbrookes have revealed that although Coleen was initially predicted to be the favorite to win, her odds have been reduced to 10/1.
