Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher and Marc Cucurella will NOT join Chelsea on their preseason tour of the US – but Enzo Fernandez WILL travel stateside after Copa America racism storm

  • Euro 2024 finalists Palmer, Gallagher and Cucurella will not take part in Chelsea’s tour
  • Enzo Fernandez will join the tour on Monday despite sparking a racism storm
  • Chelsea still have to play Celtic, Club America, Man City and Real Madrid on tour

Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher and Marc Cucurella will not return to Chelsea’s squad in the United States as the three Euro 2024 finalists will be given an extended break following the Euro 2024 finals.

Cucurella played the full 90 minutes in the match won by Spain and provided an assist for the winning goal against England, a week before Chelsea left for their pre-season training.

Mail Sport has learned that the club have no plans to allow their three finalists to train with new head coach Enzo Maresca ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.

Consideration was given to flying them out for the final stages of the tour, but the club ultimately decided it would be better for them to return to Cobham to work with the coaches and wait for their team-mates to return.

Given the time zones, it could be more of a hindrance than a benefit.

Although Cole Palmer will not be joining the Blues on their US tour, he quickly hit the gym after England’s defeat in the European Championship final.

Palmer scored England’s only goal in the Euro 2024 final against Spain. Within two days of that defeat, he was working with his personal trainer to build on his excellent previous season at Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Enzo Fernandez will join his teammates in the United States after sparking a wave of racism following Argentina’s Copa America final win.

He is expected on Monday to clean up the mess he caused after posting a video on his Instagram in which members of the Argentina national team chanted a racist and homophobic slur about France.

Chelsea have four games left in the US, taking on Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic at Notre Dame Stadium, Indiana, 9pm (UK time) on Saturday.

The Blues then travel across the United States, taking on Club America in Atlanta, Georgia, and Premier League rivals Manchester City in Ohio, before the final match of the tour against Real Madrid in Charlotte, North Carolina.
