Thousands of Coldplay fans gathered at the end of one of Dublin’s busiest streets to attend a surprise performance by the band. However, some fans were disappointed that they were unable to hear the set.
After a rumour circulated on Wednesday that a major artist would be making an unannounced appearance on Grafton Street, fans from across the capital gathered on the high street ahead of the expected 8pm kick-off time.
Lead singer Chris Martin, accompanied by rapper Burna Boy, walked onto Grafton Street shortly after 8pm amid heightened security and an increased presence of Irish police.
Coldplay are in Dublin for four sold-out concerts at the 82,000 capacity Croke Park as part of their record-breaking Music Of The Spheres World Tour.
More than 10 million tickets have been sold to date, making it the most attended music tour of all time.

Martin and Burna Boy were joined by Little Simz, Elyanna and TINI for the first public performance of We Pray with all artists participating.
They sang the same song several times, while fans filmed it with their cell phones and sang along.
The short session was part of a music video that first aired on the band’s official TikTok channel.
The performance was met with mixed reactions. The lack of speakers in the large crowd was disappointing, as many were too far away to hear properly, causing some fans to leave before the event was over.
Niamh Burke, a teacher from Tipperary, said she didn’t know why the same song was being played over and over, but added: “I thought it was fun. It was a thrill to see them in real life.”
However, she was disappointed with the sound system.
When asked what she thought of the event, another fan, who wished to remain anonymous, replied, “I don’t know what it was, but it was a waste of time either way.”
