Coldplay: A record 300,000 people backed up on Ticketmaster’s presale queue for Perth show

Coldplay fans are desperately clamoring for tickets to the Perth concert with a record crowd of 300,000 in Ticketmaster’s pre-sale queue – as the band announces a second special show

And fans are desperate for tickets, with 300,000 people lining up in an online queue on Monday for a chance to win one of 60,000 tickets on offer.

Ticketmaster confirmed on Monday that punters trying to access pre-sale tickets were showing up on the seller’s website in record numbers.

The pre-sale started on Monday, May 15 at 10 a.m. and will continue until Tuesday, May 16 at 9 a.m.

Tickets for the general public go on sale Tuesday, May 16 at 10 a.m. at livenation.com.au

Following the online crush, Coldplay announced Monday afternoon that they would be adding a second date right after their original November 18 performance.

“Due to incredible demand, a second show in Perth has been added for November 19,” their Twitter post read.

Coldplay announced on Tuesday that they will be bringing their Music of the Spheres World Tour to Perth in November for a special performance.

The British rock band posted a video on YouTube telling their 25 million subscribers that they will be performing at Optus Stadium.

The beloved group last performed in Australia in 2016, and this concert marks their first concert in the WA capital since February 2009.

While the financial details of bringing the band to Perth are not being disclosed, Tourism Minister Roger Cook expressed his optimism that the concert would generate international tourism revenue to Western Australia.

The state government will launch an advertising blitz to nearby Asian markets, including Singapore and New Zealand.

“This is a major coup for WA as it is a national exclusive. Coldplay will only perform one night here at Optus Stadium,’ Mr Cook said.
