Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane weather: When rain will strike

The cold weather, brought by a polar air mass, will bring chilly temperatures all week.

Cold fronts moving across southwestern and southeastern Australia are expected to bring sub-zero temperatures to several regions, causing frost to break out across the country.

Weather zone Meteorologist Angus Konta explains that conditions feel much colder than the actual temperature, due to strong wind gusts in the southeast.

“There is a cold air mass hanging over our heads and although it is quite sunny, it is still relatively cold during the day because of the strong winds and showers,” he said.

“In Melbourne, showers will ease this afternoon and temperatures will be much closer to true,” he said.

In Sydney, the winds will continue along the coast for the next few days, probably until Wednesday or Thursday.’

Light showers will continue to occur on the east coast in the coming days.

Meanwhile, a cold front will bring storms and showers to the southwest of Western Australia, with the heaviest rainfall expected along the coastline south of Perth.

On Sunday, wintry conditions brought snowfalls of up to 400 metres to the Lower ACT, eastern Victoria and the Central Tablelands of New South Wales. More snow is expected today.
