Cold Feet’s Fay Ripley hides her daughter’s contraception because she wants to be a grandmother

Fay Ripley, 57, from Cold Feet, reveals she hides her 20-year-old daughter’s contraception because she desperately wants to be a grandmother

Fay Ripley has revealed that she has been actively hiding birth control from her 20-year-old daughter because she desperately wants to be a grandmother.

The 57-year-old actress said she is “encouraging an early pregnancy” for her 20-year-old daughter Parker and will start pestering her 16-year-old son Sonny to think about kids in a year.

“I’m so broody, and all the time,” she told the White wine question time podcast.

Faye continued, “My daughter is actually 20 now, and it’s not good, but I encourage an early pregnancy. I actively hide birth control.

“I was an old mom first and foremost, I can’t hang around. I understand it’s your life, but what about mine?

“And my 16-year-old son… you know, again, I’ll give it another year and then I’ll start going in there too and say, ‘Come on, what have you got for me?’

Fay shares her two children with her husband, Australian actor Daniel Lapaine, 51.

Parker is a budding actress signed to talent agency Curtis Brown whose clients also include Florence Pugh, Adjoa Andoh, and the new Doctor Who, Ncuti Gatwa.

Fay said she struggled with being in the “second half” of motherhood now that her kids are growing up.

She said she’s aware she’s “claustrophobic” with them, but can’t resist helping them around the house.

She said, “I think I might be going a little far. Like I’m still doing a turndown service. Like literally I’m doing a fold-down.

“I put a pointy thing on the toilet roll for when they have their next poop. That’s because I think ‘Ah, that’s nice for them’. And I fill a glass of water. At 20 and 16, what am I doing?

“I think if they were here they’d say it’s pretty claustrophobic. So I’m clearly not quite right.

“But I really feel like it’s been a privilege so far. I don’t know what will happen.

“I feel like I’ve kept them alive so far and I’m proud of that, and now ‘Hey kids, gotta keep me alive now!”

She said she was grateful for the time she spent with them during the lockdown as it meant they weren’t out and about ‘taking drugs and abusing alcohol’.

“I think they would tell a different story,” she said. “But I was able to cook for them… They were forced into a relationship with me that they would have thrown in the trash a long time ago.”
