Colby Covington wants to share event with Jon Jones at UFC International Fight Week for title shot

Colby Covington is talking International Fight Week for a showdown with Leon Edwards this summer.

‘Chaos’ wants to share an event with Jon Jones, who could face Stipe Miocic, in what would be a massive event in July. International Wrestling Week takes place between July 3 and 9.

The controversial American is next in line for a welterweight title shot, according to Dana White, but Edwards continues to insist he doesn’t deserve the shot.

covington said mixed martial arts fights: ‘I think now, with the way it’s shaping up, International Fight Week is the biggest scene, the biggest show, and they’re talking about Jon Jones and Stipe. [Miocic] Who doesn’t want to see me on stage with my old friend, old friend, Jon Jones?

‘Do you know how funny that would be on stage at the press conference? It is perfect. It’s money.

Covington is next in line, says Dana White, but Edwards doesn’t want to give him the fight, with ‘Chaos’ targeting International Fight Week in July for a showdown.

He continued: ‘The UFC knows I’m okay with whatever: co-feature, main event, whatever they want me to do. I am the best businessman. I show up, I gain weight, I don’t lose the weight by nine pounds like that dog-faced gremlin [Khamzat Chimaev].

‘I make my weight, championship weight literally on a day’s notice [and] I cut 18 kilos, there are no excuses.

‘I’ll be ready. If you want me to co-star the event [UFC 290], I will be a co-star of the International Fight Week event. Whatever they want.

‘If they want June, August, May, April, whatever the UFC wants. I leave that to the big bosses because they decide.’

Covington then insisted that it is not Edwards who will pick his next opponent, even though the champion remains certain that ‘Chaos’, who previously ignored ‘Rocky’s’ call, is hot on his heels.

“Nobody else decides, not Leon, not these groupie journalists, these fans who are crying, which, by the way, is absolutely hilarious,” Covington said.

“If you ask me how I’m doing, I’m doing great because all my enemies are miserable right now.”

‘I stand ready, I was ready to fight [at UFC 286] any time, either one, it didn’t matter because I know I’m the best in the world so I could fight any style. It doesn’t matter, I’ll be ready whenever.

Edwards defended his title in impressive fashion on home soil at UFC 286 in London, earning a majority decision win over Kamaru Usman.

The Brit is interested in fighting Jorge Masvidal next, if ‘Gamebred’ beats Gilbert Burns in the co-main event of UFC 287 next weekend.

Belal Muhammad is also seen as deserving of a shot, but it remains to be seen who will fight the welterweight champion next.
